We had seven conference losses by a total of sixteen points. At the tournament, we received a second, losing a close game by five points. We are losing only two seniors from the starting team, and our chances for next year are very bright. John Wright was selected to be a member of the All-Conference team this year. He had more field goals than anyone in the con- ference and is fourth in all over scoring. Mr. Sveum in his Hobo Day attire. GUIDANCE Mr. Sveum is our new guid- ance counselor this year. His office is located in room 23, the old teacher's lounge. Besides his high school counseling work, he teaches one English class and acts as advisor for the Student Council and does some work in the grade school. 47 48 STUDENT LIFE 49 SOCIAL SCIENCE Our Social Science department is made up of several different classes this year. Mr. Burkart teaches Social Studies, a re- quired Freshman course, World History, and Geography. Mr. Klug concentrates upon U.S. History and Social. These last two courses are designed to help you under- stand your nations history and also to help you adjust to, and understand modern so- ciety, by studying its past and present sys- tems of government. A special study of Economics and the Constitution is included. 50 Our Science department this year is under the direction of Mr. Mischka and Mr. Williams. Courses include General Science, a required Freshman course, Biology, and Chemistry which Juniors are allowed to take this year. Physics, which is a college prep subject is offered every other year. SCIENCE 51 MATH Our Math department includes four years of in- terested subjects. Algebra I and II, freshman and jun- ior courses, deal with the logical use of mathematical ideas and concepts. Geo- metry, a sophomore course, deals with the logical use of intuition and induction. All these are combined in Ad- vanced Math which is recom- mended for college bound students. 52 FRENCH AND ENGLISH Madame Ebben est le professeur de fransais. Les 616ves parient de fran ais dans la classe. La classe de fran9ais est interressante n'est- ce pas? Mrs. Schwitz teaches junior, senior and college prep English classes. Miss Riddle instructs the freshmen and several sopho- more classes with Mr. Sveum taking care of one sophomore class. 53 Our commercial course, taught by Mr. Peterson and Mrs. Klug, consists of General Busi- ness, Typing I, Shorthand, Office Practice, and Bookkeeping. They are designed to help those interested in future clerical work or those who intend on going on to school, where typing and steno- graphic skills are required. 54 Our Home Ec. department is de- signed for teaching young people how to manage the finances of a home, shop for a family, care for a family and how to help provide for a family’s clothing by learning the proper tech- niques of sewing. This year Art is being taught in the upstairs of the old grade school, by Mrs. Thomson. Much of their work can be seen in displays around the school. HOME EC. AND ART 55 SHOP AND “AG” Shop and Ag instructors this year are Mr. Hillary and Mr. Whirry. Mr. Hillary's shop class, which is learning drafting, has made tables especially de- signed for this course. Mr. Whirry's boys, who have been National Winners for years, are again studying for State competition. We wish them much luck. PHY-ED AND BAND 57 CONCERT Double Trio is com- posed of seniors. These girls have been together since 7th grade and have performed together in their last Christmas Concert. Chorus under direction of Mr. Kersten TMAS These two boys are known by the white hats they wear as the Good Guys. The entertainment they provided made this Christmas Party a big success. Our excitement mounted Friday morning and during the 1 p.m. parade and reached a fever pitch during the 2 p.m. game with the Randolph Rockets. A heartwarming 34-18 victory was our prize. The climax of the two-day celebration was the Sweetheart Tree the dance held that evening. 61 BLUE HAWAII ’66 May 7, 1966 marked the most important event in the lives of last year’s juniors.
