M.H.S. BAND Echoing through the halls, can still be heard the strains of the peppy band with which Montello is credited. The familiar figure of Mr. Anderson about the school for five months was missed when he resigned in January. Our band led the Homecoming Parade with colors, played for the pep rally, football and basketball games, Farmer's Institute, Grade School Teacher's Convention, and plans to take part in the Music Festival on April 19 and May 3. The Montello High School Band is progres- sing rapidly under our new director, Mr. Week. Our band received the following awards at the Music Festival at Westfield last spring: M.H.S. Band ...... Patricia McMahon, Rita Schwochert. Imogene Rataczak. The Senior Girls' Chorus this year consisted of 23 mem- bers. We started under the direction of Mr. Anderson, who resigned at the end of the first semester. Mr. Week then took over band and chorus. The Chorus participated in the Senior Class play, and will take part in the Junior-Senior Banquet, Commencement Exercises, and the Wautoma Music Festival, April 19 and May 3. SENIOR .. . GIRLS' CHORUS At the 1951 District Music Festival held at Westfield, the Girls' Glee Club received an Award II, the sextet con- sisting of Donna Ritchie. Ila Whirry, Rita Polcyn, Eunice Metcalf, Mary Ann Inman, and Mary Jane Mateske, an Award I; and a duet rendered by Ruth and Janis Robinson, an Award II. The quartet which was composed of Ruth Robinson, Geraldine Kusick, Florence Steinhaus, and Mary Jane Mateske won a starred I rating at Westfield and a first place in the State Music Contest at Madison. All of these groups were entered in Class B under the direction of Miss Bernice Scobie.
