She seemed to be elected as secretary to all the clubs she be- longed to in high school and college. Her most interesting em- ployment was as legal secretary. She has been teaching here for MR. GATES Burinerr Education Mr. Gates was graduated from Whittier Union High School and received his A.B. degree from Whittier College. At U.S.C. he received his M.A. degree and did graduate work at Stanford and U.C.L.A. In high school he was a member of CSF. AUSTIN KEISER Business Education While in the army, Mr. Kei- ser spent four years in India where he had many adventures. He graduated from Temple Col- lege in Philadelphia, and has also attended New Jersey State. In college he sang in the glee club. He has been teaching for 13 years, and once taught in the southern-most U.S. high school, at Key West, Florida. MRS. JEAN ELOISE LUCAS Burinerr Education Most of her life has been spent in California. She was graduated from U.C.L.A., in which she was a member of Phi Chi Theta. She was also member of the Business honorary. This is her first year at Oilerville. MRS. ROSE E. STEELE Bu.fif1e.rJ Education Mrs. Steele received her mas- ter's degree at Northwestern Uni- versity and her B.A. at Carleton College, Minn. In college she was maid of honor, may queen, and Phi Beta Kappa. At camps in Yellowstone Park she was a hostess for three summers. She taught music at MSHS for many years.

ADAMS English Miss Adams, in her student days in Massachusetts and In- diana, was active in dramatics and student council, was treasurer and vice-president of the Senior Class, and on the staff of the school paper. She held the highest av- erage in her high school class and won a scholarship to college. MR. EUGENE N. ADAMS English II, III A graduate of one of the rival schools of the Oilers is Mr. Ad' ams, who was a Monrovia Wild- cat when he went to high school. He later graduated from San jose State, and attended Claremont Graduate School. He is an or- ganist at the First Christian Church in Whittier. i itii ii Q ,.,, . MR. EDGAR DOWD English II Missoula, Montana, is where Mr. Dowd was born and reared. Some of his years were spent as an instructor on an Indian reser- vation and in the Navy, but one of his most interesting employ- ment experiences was owner and operator of the only grass hut barber shop in the world fSa- moaj. She has taught all grades from 4th to the 2nd year of college. Her highest honor has been serving teachers of this district as president of the Montebello Teachers' Association. Her greatest desire is to visit many places, both here in Amer- ica and in other countries. MRS. GERTRUDE J. HOOPES English In Wheaton College, Mrs. Hoopes received her B.A. and her M.A. in the U. of Illinois. Her principal student activities and offices were glee club, dra- matics, literary society and class secretary.
