Classes range from fPhysicaf.Science fremerhaf and appiied artsj to second year fBioiogy fhonors and coffege prepj inciuding 'Earth Science fremechai and applied artsj, Thysics Kcoifege prepj, Science fcoffege prepj, Chemistry Icoffege prepj, and iliibfogy Ihonors, coffege prep, apphed arts, and remechafj. ,Science is a difficuft suhject to teach Because it requires not onfy a Knowfedge of science, hut atso of math and engiish. Despite the chjficidty, science is a suhject that affows for a Iot of creativity in teaching techniques and the teachers at M77 take advantage Q' this, adding to the diversity hetween the ciasses. 'Zhere are many differences hetween Science and other cfasses at MT! One thjference is the many fahs that are performed in the various cfasses. The most memorahfe of which is the pgy disection fah in CBio I. 'Zhese fahs afiow students to study ,Hrsthand how science works. , Another mzyor chjference is the science activities availahfe for students outside of cfass. On ffehruary 26, fMonte Vista had its annuaf .Science fair. Its primarify for Chemistry and Thysics students, hut anyone can enter. 'The prqects are dzsphlyedfor everyone and are judged in each catagory. The hest projects are sent to compete in the countywide, Downtown .Science fair. Another popidar annuai event is the ,Science Ofympns heid in May. Students syn up to compete in various contests refated to the use ij physics. 'Winners are awarded in each catagory, and its a day of fun for participants and spectators. One aspect of this department is the opportunity for students to tahe the Bwfogy Advanced fPIacement Examination. After tabng iBiofogy I and II students are weff prepared to take this test. In 1987, 27 students took the Biofogy Advanced LPfacement test and 25 of those passed with three receiving the highest possihfe score. .Science cfasses are among the most memorahie, and Monte 'Vistas science department has not onfy taught us a fat, hut has also made our Science ciasses interesting and fun, Science Department-343 ,. iQ
