The twegth grade alhnws the students more choices and the extra opportunity for indepth study in certain areas. 'These classes include: English 7-8615, English 7-895, Media 1C5, Creative Writing 1615, .Shakespeare 15, and Zutohiography 15, which meet higher levels of writing sQlls. On the college prep and honors levels, the major course emphasis is centered on a quality preparation for success in college. Els the student progresses through the following grade levels, career instruction is limited and more leadership slglls are introduced Cgroup associatunis, dehates, class presentations and prcjects, etcJ. The Enghsh Department has a strong commitment to close- textual analysis of hterature and the teaching of writing, listening, and speaQng through critical thinbng sblls in a systematic study of the previous works. Each regular course includes instruction of the hasic fundamentals if writing- which include: grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, vocahulary, sentence structure, and multi-paragraph pieces in descriptive, narrative, informative and persuasive forms. Career information and practical joh sglls relating to English are introduced on a hroad scope early in the 9th grade with such units as consumer reading, faulty advertisement, and exposure to hasic application forms. 'Zhe senior applied arts courses compre- hensively explore adult careers, including areas of how to prepare, ohtain, retain, and change careers. Wlonte fVista English students are supplied with hterature and grammar-composition hooks each semester, or depending on when the class finishes and starts with each unit. Each classroom is supplied with eight to ten dictionaries and thesauruses for each students use. 'Zhe department CWHZTS a variety :gf teaching guides for literature and writing, and a lage variety ij' teachergenerated instructional units for hoth QSRH English and reading requirements.
