M31 1' TO WORLD PEACE We've walked this hill together and gathered some timely seeds to scatter with time-felt hope through time-worn valleys that lie before the timeless ridge which beckons our next ascent. The valleys are browned and red and almost greenless from storms that gnarled and pocked and marked the onetime sca rless soil. We've seen the trees lose bark, color black, grow sparse and almost leafless from winds that raked their very roots and tore them from the wounded earth. It is alla vast, wasted land that will sterilize ourfertile seeds and make them grow to dust. But ourfertile seeds need not be futile seeds, for on the summit of that next hill there is a tall glass- walled greenhouse that doesn't shield the sun. l.et's sow our seeds in that greenhouse with its richer soil, let's grow young plants in its warmer atmosphere, and when the plants are strong enough to stand the coa rse dry wind, let's replant them in the land below- they may take root. Then we'll nourish those fields of growing seeds, and the valleys may yet be green. Fred Nlisurella Y w I QI f 2 ,-4 -1 ,4 1 44. x if CY. .5 g ' QP W... f s it fl., E. I wish to thank the yearbook staff, especially Barry Brothers, who is re- sponsible for the majority of candid shots in the book, and Patrick Clark and Fred Misurella for their assistance in layout procedures. To James P. Pettegrove, our adviser, Nicholas Ickes, our printer, and Ed Kamper, our ofticial photographer, go our thanks for their patience and guidance. Above all I wish to state that this book could not have been a reality without the progressive spirit and industriousness of those who helped in its pro- duction.
