PRESIDENT You are looking forward with pride and pleasure to your commence- ment — the day when trained and competent persons as students march up, over, and away — and then as graduates march on against challenging problems related to education and democracy. Never has the work of the teacher been so inspiring, for never have we had a greater opportunity for service and leadership. In this situation, may we demonstrate the hypothesis that the objectives and practices of our schools determine to a great degree the efficiency and morale of our people in a crisis and also the character of our civilization during the post-war period.
