Headmaster surfing, , Upon the resumption of classes aftei a Thanksgiving vacation, which was lengthened by one day in recognition of the accomplishments of the football team, the topic of special interest was the successful football season. The team had made the best record in the last six years-four victories .and three defeats. Of the losses, two were by the narrow margin of one touchdown and might have been won up to the last few minutes of the game. Great credit and heartiest congratulations are due to the squad and the coaches for a season of which all may bc proud. With a championship basketball team which was co'champion in the spring, the Academy has established itself as a top'contender in our Little Ivy League. Our most notable material gain this school'year -has been the new furniture in our Assembly and Study Hall. One hundred and fifty desk and seat combina- tions were donated by the P.T.A. and the recently graduated class of 1953. In order that this new furniture might have the proper setting, the Trustees re- decorated the Assembly Hall which presented a bright new appearance on the opening of school. Through the further generosity of the P.T.A., a football score- board was added to our athletic equipment and this, displayed in a prominent position on the top of the fence, keeps the spectators wellfinformed as to the progress of the game. On the scholastic side we were highly gratified with the encouraging and complimentary report of the Evaluation Committee, representing the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, which visited the Academy last February. Our school was generously commended and a number of helpful sug' made for our consideration with a view to further improvement. gestions were Our record of college admissions was especially commended. Over a period of the past six years, only two graduates on the average each year have failed to attend college and in the majority of cases this has been because they accepted positions in business immediately or were called into the service. Of our last graduating class we have two representatives at Yale, one at Princeton, three at Williams, one at Amherst, one' at Wesleyan, one at M.I.T., two at Cornell, three at Bowdoin, one at Northwestern, two at the University of Colorado, one at Lafayette, one at Lehigh and three at' Vermont. The Senior Class and the Student Council' have started the year energetically and have been setting the student body an excellent example of positive and intelligent leadership. There is a sense of direction and cooperation which augurs well for the success of the year. We have made a good beginning and we shall make a good ending. Our thanks and very best wishes for the future are extended to the Class of 1954.
