THE YEAR IN RETHCDSPEC The school year 1960-61 was a time marked by history. It was the year of the Great Debates and long campaign struggle between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. In the end, Kennedy, a Roman Catholic, won the Presidency with the smallest popular- vote margin ever. ln Montana, Donald G. Nutter was elected Governor and promptly rocked the University system with his budget cuts. The Congo Crisis, Laos, the Kennedy Clan, Berlin, and Astronaut Alan Shepherd, USN, were familiar names for millions of Americans.
