INTRODUCTION .... The beginning words musl seek a cause, a reason for beginning and for ending. This is a book, ihen, for all ihe strangers who have met, and more especially for all who have become something less than strangers. As we remember 1951 it was the winter of despair, but it was also the spring of hope. Yes, these are the best and worst of limes, there is despair and hope, the hope backed by ambition, a determination to grow. A child was born and began to walk. He walked across the rolling plains, gazed back at the white-faced cattle, walked by huge mine shafts grinding into the earth. He stood in awe midst the mountains raising their shaggy heads toward the blazing sun and dangled his weary feet in a rushing stream. The child is now a man and a man who has grown shall not stop.
