Although I he prospect of easy wealth wax alluring, the real pioneer was led to leave comfortable surroundings by the spirit of adventure and the joy there is in the overcoming of obstacles. He discovered trails, built roads, fol- lowed the larger valleys with rjilro.uk and tunnelled the mountain passes. But obstacles greater than mountains still block the way of progress. The hope tb.it perhaps some day the uvrningly impossible problems of civilisation may be solved, keeps taxpayers, churches, and parents supporting Colleges and Uni- versities.
