The breakthrough in 1965-66 saw the enrollment surpass a thousand students, the faculty increase proportionately, the legislators appropriate funds to construct two new buildings, and 1965-66 saw a steady climb in academic stature. Northern Montana College is meeting that challenge by raising standards of academic excellence--making this college one of the strong leaders in freedom in today's world of turmoil which so 'badly needs such institutions I am proud to be a part of Northern Montana Co1lege's steady growth toward greatness and am looking forward to Northern's continuation in this progress. Sandy Von Eschen reigned over NMC's Seventh Annual Homecoming. The biggest event of the year was kicked off by the traditional snake dance through the dorms and the bonfire rally. The Frosh proved their strength by defeating the Upperclassmen in a hard-fought tug-of-war. Friday evening the Cowan family presented to Northern a plaque in memory of the late Senator Cowan, an early Nothern booster. The students then enjoyed the music and humor of the Four Freshmen who gave a two-hour concert. During their intermission, the Queen Coronation took place. Bright and early Saturday morning the largest parade NMC has ever presented moved through the streets of Havre. The Industrial Art's Club 's float captured first prize, followed by the floats of Tau Kappa and the Freshmen. Football fans saw the Lites dazzle the Rocky Mountain Bears 7-6. The couple was crowned during intermission of the formal dance, the theme of which was Taking a Chance on Love. Much ability on the part of NMC students was displayed Thursday night at the annual talent show. An overflowing audience enjoyed a variety of acts hosted by the versatile Northern Sons. The acts ranged from a comedy routine to a classical ballet. Saturday morning brought the more ambitious students to Northern's campus in search of hidden money. Work on artistic snow sculptures as well as ice skating and sledding lighted the afternoon activities. The winning sculpture, constructed by several off-campus students, was a realistic Pink Panther. Students and faculty members alike participated in the fun and games of the camival and sock hop Saturday night. One of the most hilarious booths was that of the Freshman class--a frustration-releasing-pie-throwing contest.
