28 T.V. Seniors Produce Real j y One of the most involved productions assigned to seniors in television production is the annual dramatic production. For the dramatic production each student submits a treatment which explains a script. This year's choice, “Sorry, Wrong Number , directed by Sue Setter-quist, was based on an Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Barbra Kenk was excellent at portraying the main character, Leona Stevenson, a wealthy semi-invalid who overheard murder plans while attempting to reach her husband by telephone. Leona frantically continued to attempt locating her husband through calls to business associates, never realizing that those overheard plans were for her own murder until it was too late. “Sorry, Wrong Number, offered several production challenges, interaction among characters was challenging as Leona, the only character in the main set, communicated by telephone to all other characters. A few other characters were seen in other locations but the rest were known only by their voices from the telephone conversations. One actor in a set and voices over telephones challenged crew members with audio, camera, and directing responsibilities. “Sorry, Wrong Number was a successful challenge. The quality of “Sorry, Wrong Number proved the talents of crew and cast members in the varied aspects of this production. Show

30 • Students Gain Stage Experience Music 307-Opera Workshop is a unique course at Montana State. Taught by Music Professor Fred Schoepflin. the workshop is a chance for music students to gather valuable experience in stage productions. A student who enrolls in the Opera Workshop can learn various skills including makeup, lighting, directing. etc.. The culmination of the workshop is the actual production of an opera, late in Winter Quarter or early Spring Quarter. In 1980. The Pirates of Penzance was presented. Totally student-run. this musical comedy by Gilbert and Sullivan was a campus- wide success. Professor Schoepflin, although guiding the progress of the production. participated very little in the actual show. After casting the opera. Schoepflin became only an observer of the complicated process involved in producing a musical production. The learning experience of Music 307 is aimed at helping the students teach theatre and musical production techniques when they graduate. This would range from high school plays to community theatrical productions. (Photos by Vance)
