Ag Student Develops Process Under a basic research grant and as a senior project in the Plant and Soil Science Department of the College of Agriculture. Montana State coed Vickie Parker succeeded in developing a lab procedure to measure the amount of proline in a plant. Proline is an amino acid present in plants, which researchers believe directly correlates with the amount of resistance the plant has to drought or disease. Miss Parker will wrap up her investigation in this area, which is administered by Professor Bob Eslick and supervised by Virgil Smail (an MSU doctoral candidate), for her June 1980 graduation. Vickie will continue to work on this subject on a part-time basis. After her graduation, she will continue on at Montana State for a masters degree with her thesis based on a project she already envisions to develop higher natural resistance to insects and drought by breeding plants. Vickie's project is just one of many such programs in the College of Agriculture. Such practical experience combined with valuable research is encouraged by the College as it serves two purposes: valuable research information is gained and valuable experience is gotten which the students can use for future employment. 28 T.V. Seniors Produce Real j y One of the most involved productions assigned to seniors in television production is the annual dramatic production. For the dramatic production each student submits a treatment which explains a script. This year's choice, “Sorry, Wrong Number , directed by Sue Setter-quist, was based on an Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Barbra Kenk was excellent at portraying the main character, Leona Stevenson, a wealthy semi-invalid who overheard murder plans while attempting to reach her husband by telephone. Leona frantically continued to attempt locating her husband through calls to business associates, never realizing that those overheard plans were for her own murder until it was too late. “Sorry, Wrong Number, offered several production challenges, interaction among characters was challenging as Leona, the only character in the main set, communicated by telephone to all other characters. A few other characters were seen in other locations but the rest were known only by their voices from the telephone conversations. One actor in a set and voices over telephones challenged crew members with audio, camera, and directing responsibilities. “Sorry, Wrong Number was a successful challenge. The quality of “Sorry, Wrong Number proved the talents of crew and cast members in the varied aspects of this production. Show
