Agricultural experiment stations were set up in many areas of the state to better study the wide variety of growing climates in the state Additional acreage was a result of donations of Montana citizens. While agriculture is no longer the leading industry in the Gallatin Valley, it still represents a large portion of the public livelihood People in Montana are still interested in the things that are a part of the ranching life: livestock, attire, machinery, homecrafts Bozeman was the site in the early years for the Fall Fair, a great gathering of people to celebrate the way of the farmer Now known as the Winter Fair and held at a different time due to advancements in travel and central heating, the tradition is still being carried on.

 Montana State University had its roots On February 16. 1893. the Montana legislature passed an act creating Montana's first university, the Agricultural College of the State of Montana, in Bozeman. It was soon to be followed by the University of Montana, the School of Mines, and the Normal colleges to form the state university system. From the beginning. Montana State University, then ACSM. was to be different from its sister schools. The new institution was Montana’s land-grant college. Large land grants had been made available to each state by the Morrill Act of 1862 for the endowment, support, and maintenance of at least one college where the leading object shall be. without excluding other scientific and classical studies and including military tactics, to teach such branches of learning as are related to agriculture and the mechanic arts.”

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bozeman Means ‘Montana State University’ Bozeman is Montana State University and MSU is Bozeman. The two are inseparable and synonymous. One could not exist without the other. As much as it sometimes hates to admit, Bozeman would not be the same if the university had not been established there. Education has surpassed agriculture as the valley’s mainstay, and it acts like a set of stacked dominoes; everything relies on the university. The university attracts students who, in turn, support Bozeman’s many businesses and landlords who provide jobs for employees who perhaps have spouses that provide services, such as dental medicine or building contracting and the list goes on and on. A cycle is created, with each part related to another.
