WOMEN'S DAY The 47th annual Women's Day was held April 26 in the Student Union Ball- room. Numerous awards were passed out, among them: Linda Bourdet re- ceived the highest honor, chosen five- year speaker, which means that she will return in 1975 to address the Wom- en's Day audience. Janis Lachenmaier took the Herrick Award, named for tor- mer Dean of Women, Una B. Herrick and considered the second highest achievement Women's Day can offer. Both ot these girls were seniors from Bozeman. The junior attainment cup went to Linda Van Daveer of Belgrade. Patsy Wegner of East Helena was an- nounced Women's Day chairman for 1971. Giving the five-year speaker speech was Mrs. Edith Olson McCor- mick, a 1965 graduate from Absa- rokee. Her theme: Happiness Hap- pens as You Live. Helen Fechter, MSU registrar, was named Outstanding Alumna. She retired during the summer from the position she held since 1964.

GRADUATION '70 The Commencement was held in the fieldhouse Sunday, June 7, 1970. The only real excite- ment was caused by a thunder- storm which interrupted a speech by Dr. Carl Mclntosh, who was making his first public appearance as newly-appoint ed president. A total of 1,169 degrees were conferred, the largest number to that date. College of Agri- culture: 127 bachelor's, 12 master's, 2 doctorates: College of Education: 132 bachelor's, 20 master's, 2 doctorates: Col- lege of Engineering: 156 bach- elor's, 23 master's, 6 doctor- ates: College of Letters and Sciences: 253 bachelor's, 52 master's, 16 doctoratesg Col- lege of Professional Schools: 253 bachelor's, 16 master's.
