Dean Gaines Vice President Serving as president of MSC in the absence of President Renne, Vice-President P.C. Caines has a dual role to H11 with his position as dean of faculty. He received his B.S. degree at NVashington State College in 1919 and his NIS. degree in 1931. Coming to MSC in 1923, he served as a chemistry instructorg he was a professor of the de- partment in 1946, assuming his present position of vice- president in 1945. Contributing to the betterment of MSC through eflicient organi- zation and cooperation, the administrative officers strive for more beneficial ways of serving the individual student. The superintendent of the physical plant is responsible for road maintenance and campus construction. Public information about MSC in the form of newspapers, television, and radio releases is under the management of the director of information. Building plans are handled by the supervising architect, and eligibility of student applications is determined by the director of admissions. All business comes under the control of the business manager and treasurer, and the agricultural extension service is respon- sible for county extension agents. Well known to the student are the duties of the director of the SUB and the head librarian. Tim Babcock Governor and Board Chairman Board of Eolucation Providing a program to meet the needs of the student as well as the people of Montana, the Board of Education, composed of the State Board of Education and the Ex-officio regents of the University of Montana, works for the betterment of Montana State College. This board decides policies, limitations and pro- cedures to be followed by the college. Always keeping the progress and advance- ment of MSC in mind, these two boards, along with the administration, provide a program of instruction, extension and re- search. Delegation of special duties to the local Executive Board is made by the State Board of Education, and members have gen- eral supervision over all state units.
