Tim Babcock Governor and Board Chairman Board of Eolucation Providing a program to meet the needs of the student as well as the people of Montana, the Board of Education, composed of the State Board of Education and the Ex-officio regents of the University of Montana, works for the betterment of Montana State College. This board decides policies, limitations and pro- cedures to be followed by the college. Always keeping the progress and advance- ment of MSC in mind, these two boards, along with the administration, provide a program of instruction, extension and re- search. Delegation of special duties to the local Executive Board is made by the State Board of Education, and members have gen- eral supervision over all state units. Dean Brown Dean qff Stuohnts Situated in the Student Welfare Oflice, Dean Val Glynn serves as a counselor in his capacity as dean of students. He graduated from MSC in 1928 and re- ceived his master of education degree from Montana State University in 1941. Presently he acts as advisor to Fangs, Septemviri, and Phi Eta Sigma, fresh- man men's scholastic honorary. Combin- ing hard work with enthusiasm, he manages to fit into his duties the large job of finding housing for, as well as supervision of all men on campus. Dean of Women Since her arrival at MSC ten years ago, Dean Esther Brown has served in the position of dean of women. Working closely with Associated Women Stu- dents, she helps establish the rules to be followed by MSC coeds. She re- ceived her B.A. in 1930 from the Uni- versity of Washington, where she later earned her M.A. in 1932. Instrumental in the program of Women's Day, as well as in all activities which are rela- tive to women students, she offers a ready ear and a natural interest in all those duties which fall under the ad- ministration of her respective office. Dean Gaines Vice President Serving as president of MSC in the absence of President Renne, Vice-President P.C. Caines has a dual role to H11 with his position as dean of faculty. He received his B.S. degree at NVashington State College in 1919 and his NIS. degree in 1931. Coming to MSC in 1923, he served as a chemistry instructorg he was a professor of the de- partment in 1946, assuming his present position of vice- president in 1945. Now, as in the past, Dean Gaines is once again showing his abilities as an advisor as Well as a leader. or l l ministrative Cffcers 1 fm.. W I 1 i L... Contributing to the betterment of MSC through eflicient organi- zation and cooperation, the administrative officers strive for more beneficial ways of serving the individual student. The superintendent of the physical plant is responsible for road maintenance and campus construction. Public information about MSC in the form of newspapers, television, and radio releases is under the management of the director of information. Building plans are handled by the supervising architect, and eligibility of student applications is determined by the director of admissions. All business comes under the control of the business manager and treasurer, and the agricultural extension service is respon- sible for county extension agents. Well known to the student are the duties of the director of the SUB and the head librarian.
