Household and pplied Arts Division Dean Katherine Roy As Dean of this Division, Dean Roy has under her very capable authority, the majority of the girls at MSC. Dr. Katherine Roy received her Ph.D. at Cornell Univer- sity. She came to MSC in january of 1946 with a special interest in child development and care. Dean Roy is never so busy, she cannot spare a few minutes to talk with some student or fellow faculty member. As well as being Dean to this large division which includes art majors, commercial science or business ma- jors, and home ec majors, Dean Roy is also a professor of Home Economics. For one quarter of a girl's senior year she must student teach for one-half of the quarter, if she is in the education phase of Home Economics. For the other one-half of this quarter the girl is required to live in the Home Management House. Here the girls will learn every detail of how to manage a home. They will plan, cook and serve meals and learn how to manage a home both financially and esthetically. And if they didn't al- ready know, they will learn how to clean house too. DIVISIO Dr. Frank B. Cotner has the privilege of counseling and guiding the students enrolled in the division of science, as he has the important job of being dean of this department. Dean Cotner received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1930. Students from several departments belong in this division. They are the students enrolled in Entomology, Zoology, Bacteriology, Botany, Military Science, Nursing and many other fields. Lewis Hall and the Chem Build- ing are the homes of those majoring in this division. The labs of Lewis Hall, house everything from experimental animals to experimental freshmen students. Future nurses receive their preliminary training here, before they head for the practice hospitals at Butte, Billings, or Great Falls, where they finish their training and receive their caps. Being prepared as they are, they will aptly fill the many vacancies Waiting for them in the science field. Chem1stry labs prov1de the opportumiy to conduct experiments on maienal covered m classes.
