PRESIDENT’S GREETING The management of the 1926 Montanan has decided wisely in dedicating the book to “Industrial Montana.” This shows recognition of the fact that a modern commonwealth must have well rounded development, if it is to furnish a satisfactory and dependable background for permanent and comfortable living conditions. There is probably no other state in the Union which has natural resources more favorable to the development of an industrial state than has Montana. Her broad acres and climatic conditions insure the production of food and food products in amounts that are large, and in a quality that is superior. The state has a magnificent resource in water power, timber, coal deposits, oil, iron and minerals, and all of this is essential in the upbuilding of a state that is to support a large producing and consuming population. Montana desires all of the modern facilities and services for comfortable community life. She wants good schools and higher institutions of education; she requires good roads and all of the official services that have been found necessary in a modern state. These will only become possible if the resources of the state are gotten into use, for there is an economic background to all of the desirable things that communities and individuals require. It shows a fine recognition of Montana. At the present rate of consumption Montana has enough coal to last one thousand pears.
