In October, C«loria Sicinem and Mo Kennedy delivered a strong attempt to define the goals and myths surrounding the Women’s Liberation Movement to an overflowing crowd in I ib I4X Both of the speakers remarked on the size of the audience which consisted of an equal number of men and women. Miss Stci-nem. who startled many of the viewers by wearing a miniskirt, explored and destroyed the myths that are prepetuated about women and the Movement. A nationally known journalist, she also discussed her experiences as an undercover IMayboy Bunny. ’’Jewish mothers”, and legalized abortion Miss Kennedy, a black New York City lawyer, covered a wide range of subjects dealing primarily with women as equals to men. Her comments included the issues of women in the military, the Viet Nam war. Spiro Agnew, and the basic insecurity of men After their talks, the audience was given a chance to ask questions. They ranged from the Hugh Hefner philosphy, to day-care centers. and to Montana’s altitude on Women’s Lib The session featured off-the-cuff remarks by Miss Kennedy and several embarassing moments for the hslablishment. The speakers were part of the Triad Distinguished Lecturers series. Mori Sahl. who appeared on the LMC campus in December. applied his devast mg wit to a wide range of political subjects. At both an informal session and a lecture, he hit “the over-all plan of the government to confuse the issues in equally strong and bitter terms The confusion of the issues surrounding the Kennedy Assassination received special attention from Sahl In another tangent, Sahl cruized the CIA, the handling of the My Lai incident, and the Billings’ Gazette. He also warned students to be careful of who they accept into their movements, commenting that there were CIA agents infiltrating radical groups in an attempt to divide or disrupt the groups. Sahl let the audience, which was of a fair size, see a more personal side of himself when he admitted that being a government critic is sometimes very lonely but that he will continue to speak out He said. I believe in saying it until they stop me from saying it. which may not be as far away as you think.
