Dedication In appreciation of his outstanding contributions toward the betterment of Eastern Montana College of Education, we dedicate the 1960 Rimrock to Dr. Harold L. Altcrowitz. A member of the EMCE faculty since 1948. Dr. Alterowitz is head of the health, physical education and recreation department and director of athletics. He holds the B.S.S. degree from the College of the City of New York and the M.A. and Ed.D degrees from Teachers College of Columbia University. He has served as the Montana representative to the American Association of Health. Physical Education and Recreation assembly and is a member of several AAHPER committees. In 1956-57 he was president of the northwest AAHPER district. Dr. Altcrowitz is currently a consultant to the curriculum committee on physical education for Montana. He holds the office of president of the Montana Collegiate Conference for the second time in 12 years. In April 1959 the HPER Journal published Dr. Alterowitz's article, ‘‘The Emasculation of Physical Education.” A description of his TV program. Look Like a Million. appeared in the October issue. Dr Alterowitz’s 13th year at EMCE will be highlighted by the construction of the new physical education plant —after years of planning and hard work, a dream come true. Foreword As memory preserves illusion and fact, so limo destroys illusion and alters fact. The function of the Rimrock is tha of recording tangible fact in an attempt to preserve for alumni both that fact and emotional illusion. It is only possible o halt what is called progress symbolically. Pictures can preserve an impression of past events; copy can aid in recalling those events to the reader. In thirty or forty years when you return o look at the old school. you’ll not find it—nor will you find the old Billings. You'll find the institution which you attended here in name only; the physical plant and academic processes will be largely foreign to you. One physical feature of Eastern and Billings that will not have changed will be the rimrocks. which, to you. will be the symbol of a bygone day. as will this yearbook, the Rimrock. 1.
