FIFTH ANNUAL HEADING CONFERENCE During the summer session each year for the last five years, there has been a Reading Conference at Eastern. Lectures, exhibits, demonstrations, discussions, and group meetings have been featured. Registration totaled 479 at the 1955 Conference held July 14- 15. The keynote speaker was Dr. A. Sterl Artley, Professor of Education at the University of Missouri. Dr. Artley is a noted lecturer, author, teacher and director of the child study clinic. Mrs. Dora Reese, Eastern's Reading Consultant, was conference chairman and director. EASTERN'S GRADUATE STUDENTS Herb C. Eakman Chet Jensen William N. Miller Lillian Seymour The Graduate Program at Eastern was formally adopted by the college faculty on February 9, 1956. This marks another advancement in the onward progress of the college. Awarding the Master of Science in Education degree means that Eastern will have a much closer tie-in with professional education circles in the community, the state and the Northwest region than it has ever had before. About 90 students have taken some graduate work during the past year. Among these have been Robert L. Bennett, Grace W. Cummins, Lois Hackney, Earl Halverson, Lawrence Hanson, John Lackman, James Marshall, Amalie Shannon, Russeline Vannoy and Don Woehl. PAGE 12
