Along with a brand new set of seniors for the year ’83, we also have a new principal. Mr. LeClair, principal at Mont Pleasant for many years, is handing over the controls from the school to Mr. Mauro, who was the former principal at Steinmetz. The yearbook staff, curious about the attitude and the ideas the new and somewhat experienced principal would bring, took the time to do an interview; close up and per- sonal. These are some of the answers we got. We asked him what kind of a principal he was going to try to be. He said: “A fair one, a principal that sets down a guideline that everyone must follow.” For as he stated, “A rule that is not going to be followed is useless.” These rules he intends to enforce with an iron fist if necessary. We talked with him briefly about how the recent budget cuts would affect his goals for the school, which are: “I want Mont Pleasant to be the best possible school in all facets that it can possibly be. The soon to be principal of Mont Pleasant stated that the budget cuts would mean “less dollars to do other things with,” such as, taking the football or the baseball team on a trip. He also stated that “If you have just so much money and you are paying each person more, you are having fewer teachers that you can put on your staff, so we’re all suffer- ing under this inflation.” The principal gave the yearbook staff the impression that he will be an understanding, active principal, who will work in cooperation with faculty and students alike. Good luck, Mr. Mauro. To quote your own advice to your succes- sor, “Be patient, stick to it and don’t give up.”
