Barbagallo The 1981 football season for the Mont Pleasant Red Raiders was one of many ups and downs. Their season ended with a 2-6-1 record. The captains of the team were senior lineman. Joe Capra, and junior linebacker, Jeff Hotaling. Lost during the season were players; Dan DiGenovia, the third captain, suffered an injury to the knee. Also lost was Pat Wiglowski M.P. DEFENSE STYMIES AMSTERDAM 0 0 It was a great day for football and again Mont Pleasant traveled to Amsterdam. M.P. lost the toss and stuck it to Amsterdam right from the beginning, this was generally the story for the whole game. Offense was a different story. M.P. offense and defense were like day and night, achieving only two first downs the entire game. C.C.H.S. SQUEEZES BY M.P. 210 On Friday. September 25. C.C.H.S. journeyed to Mont Pleasant to a game which ended in a close defeat. The most outstanding player of the game was Capt. Jeff Hotaling. The contest was an all out effort down to the last seconds with Kevin Korkosz. the split end hoping to be a receiver at the other end of a touch down pass. Even with this great last effort, M.P. was again unable to put some points on the board. It ended a close game and a terrible defeat. M. O'Neill |. Barbagallo P. Bajnoczy CBA SLIPS BY PLEASANT In the midst of a winter storm, CBA brought Pleasant down in defeat. Due to the accumulation of snow on the field. Pleasant wasn't able to perform offensive maneuvers effectively. The game ended a 21-0 shut out. MONT PLEASANT 13, LASALLE 17 M.P. lost to LaSalle, an exceptionally good team, 17-13. Mont Pleasant played well |oe Maura scored on a running play. Steve Panniccia scored when he recovered a fumble in the end zone. Many passes were completed, but five unfortunately fell into the arms of the opposing players. Since this game was otherwise uneventful for Pleasant, we thought it would be an appropriate place to introduce an important member of the team, number 84, David Armstrong. No, David isn't a player, he's a manager. Along with his assistant, David Clay, they greatly reduce the tasks of the coaches. Your efforts haven't gone unnoticed.'' M. Tuper G. Colvin S. Imteld LINTON LINE UNABLE TO CONTAIN CAPRA The Raiders traveled to Linton with hopes to beat Linton tor the seventh straight year. These hopes slowly dwindled as the game progressed. Linton had an early lead of 14-0 when Joe Capra, who played aggressively throughout the season, rushed in to block a point, which was recovered in the end zone by the other captain, Jeff Hotaling. Pleasant came out in the second half with a score of 20-7. They were again unable to stop Linton. The Blue Devils scored bringing the score to 27-7. A short time later. Linton was forced to punt and |oe Capra again broke through the Linton line with no problem and blocked another punt. This time Steve Imteld recovered the fumble to score. Linton went on to score an additional time bringing the final score to 33-14 Grief stricken, the team went to a popular gathering place to drown their sorrows and think about next year. SCHENECTADY’S FINEST SENIOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS: After losinga very close game against Albany. Pleasant remains Schenectady's finest, with a record of 0-2-1. Although the Raiders seem reluctant to score they have the best record of city rivals: Bishop Gibbons and Linton. Outstanding players of the game were standout lineman, Steve Imfeld and all around Jeff Hotaling. I Capra |. Cimmino t. Minahan M.Sheehan A. Clay B.G.’s ARMOR PIERCED 34-8 Bishop Gibbons High School was the scene of a massacre on the afternoon of October 10. Mont Pleasant trampled all over Gibbons, ending the game with a score of 24-8. This not only marked the first victory for Pleasant this year, but also the first score of the season. The taste of victory was especially sweet for Prank Gallo who came off the bench to throw two T.l). passes and run one in himself. Mont Pleasant remains unbeaten by Gibbons for 12 years now. The Knights armor was once again pierced by the Raiders mighty arrow. S. Paniccia RAIDERS BLOW UP TROJANS 10-3 On Saturday, October IS, the Raiders traveled to Troy to defeat the Trojans, lohn Greco put the first points on the board for the Raiders by kicking a field goal. Later.on in the action packed game. |oe Barbagallo intercepted a pass and ran all the way for a touchdown, lohn again completed the kick, thus ending the game. 10-3. MAGINN UPSETS PLEASANT IN “CLOSE GAME.” 27-6 The Raiders play tough, but Maginn had a few more breaks that greatly affected the results of the game. Mike O'Neill scored the solo touchdown for Pleasant. Mike was also the high scorer of the year with a grand total of 18 points. After losing two key seniors the year before and gaining some less experienced players coming up from J.V.. they expected to have a losing season. The first game helped them realize that. They lost 12-2 against Troy in a game where M.P. errors were not uncommon. After that defeat, the girls settled down and didn't lose another game until they faced Troy again. The first triumph of the season for M.P. was beating theirsecond rival. Amsterdam, in an errorless shutout. Their second major triumph was tying Amsterdam for second place in the Big Ten league and being seeded fourth in sectionals. They were beat in the first round by Columbia, 5-1 in a primarily defensive game. They finished the season with an overall 11-5 record which was only a dream at the start of the season. TENNIS The Mont Pleasant tennis season ended with a record of 4 and 14. This record is deceiving, M.P. played tough and lost many close matches. When interviewed. Coach Supronowicz said. “Mike Kemp and Harry Kingra were two outstanding players during the 81 season. Harry, now a junior, shows great potential and will contribute extensively to the team in the 82 season. With a few more ACES and a little less LOVE. M.P. may go undefeated in the 1982 season. He has a gift for humor, and making people happy, which has seen him through difficult times. Mark has been seriously ill for several years with a form of cancer. He doesn’t let his illness handicap him. Mark is superactive. He is a normal kid with a job, he enjoys sports, rides his bike, and at home is lovingly referred to as “One of the brats”. He doesn’t want pity or false understanding. At this point, Mark is looking for-ward to graduation. After graduation and the big 18 this summer, Mark plans to attend college this fall. When I asked a couple of Mark’s friends what words came to mind when they thought of Mark they said “SMILES AND LIFE.” DeCarlo, Deanna DeThorne. Mary DeCerbo, Marie E. DeCesare, Douglas C. AI oh Pleasant High School' When we entered these halls as freshmen, ux uxre excited and eager. ready for new experiences and ready to learn Yet each one of us was nervous, afraid of the future and awed by the size and grandeur of A1 P As we walked through the never ending corridors, seeing unfamiliar faces, upperclassmen towering above us. alone in the crowd, our fears increased Time passed faces became familiar and the school no longer scented to Ik a maze Classmates became friends and the Class of s2 was formed Miss Farbstein generously assumed the responsibility of our class and what a task it was' We held our first class elections Our new officers were Lori Anapolis — President Kathy Liggett — Vice President Sue AIerenlxrg — Treasurer Debbie Hotalimf — Corresponding Secretary Premia Dunster— Recording Secretary. Claudette Lorn) and Linda Berard — Sgt at Arms That was the beginning A loin) with the Class of s 2 came chamje. Air. LeClair was our new principal, construction on the new gym started that year and the new lockers were installed Since his arrival Air LeClair has become a part of A1 P!. as familiar to us as our classmates and teachers The new ijym has Ixen completed and the new lockers no lomjer look so new In the past four years, changes not only took place in the appearance of A1 P hut in each of us. We started to grow up (some of us) We started the ball rolling in our freshman year when Aim Farbstein organized candy hake and jewelry sales The profit from our endeavors was not great and the future looked rather dismal A glimmer of hope shined down upon us as we began to consider having our Jr Prom at AicDonalds Our class also participated in other activities such as a trip to NYC attending the movies to see Romeo Juliet, and bolding a dance that only 2i freshman a cop and a janitor attended We also raised money and the freshman class unit to Riverside Park Our sophomore year Ixgan with a hang when we held class elections The guys decided to give the girls competition for class officers It didn t un rk guite the way they planned it' Elected to office was Joe Forth — President Kathy Liggett — Vice President Sue Alerenherg—Treasurer. Debbie Hotahng — Corresponding Secretary Pam Ferri — Recording Secretary and Claudette Long and Linda Berard—Sgt at Arms In our continual search for funds UK attempted to make a profit from a Scalp 'em Raiders button sale, and red and white shakers We gatx a boost to our school spirit etKii though we didn t rake in the big bucks Our hard work and dedication wasn t turning a profit and desperation Ixgan to take its toll on us Having the Jr Prom at AI ickey D s was our class joke hut it was slowly approaching reality’ That year our basketlxill team captured the Pig to championship title and our first Ansuxrs Please team in years was victorious Our senior year began with the election of officials, now a familiar routine Our new officers are Chris Russo — President. Kathy Liggett —Vice President. Sue Merenberg — Treasurer, Deanna DeCarlo — Corresponding Secretary. Jo DiCarlo — Recording Secretary, and Cheryl Hallett and Adele Audi — Sgt at Arms Miss Farbstein. our long-suffering dean was still with us also. This is our final year and hopefully the best Our senior year will be the most memorable We re all looking forward to our Sr Banquet which will take place at the Edgewood. and dreaming of our Sr. Ball at the Turf Inn on June it, 1982. Then Gradua tion will come all too quickly, leaving us only with unforgettable memories This is the end . . . but in truth, the beginning When we leave these familiar halls, we leave not only with memories offriendships and good times, but with skills and talents and a sense of direction Never will we forget the good old days here at Mont Pleasant, however, now is the time to look ahead and strive for new goals. Aim high. Shoot far, Your aim the sky, Your goal a star We entered our Junior Year in a frenzy Frustrated by our previous unsuccessful attempts to raise money for our Jr Prom, now only months away New officers were elected Karen Wright — President. Kathy Liggett — Vice President, Sue Merenberg — Treasurer. Debbie Hotaling —Corresponding Secretary. Jo DiCarlo — Recording Secretary, and Claudette Long and Jeff Warner —Sgt at Arms. Katydids u ere our big seller, providing us with enough profit to forget McDonalds and look for bigger and better things We approached our tremendous task of preparing for the Jr Prom frantically. Searching for a place to hold our prom, a band to play, and selecting the theme were awesome tasks We overcame many obstacles and set the date —June 5. 1981 Our sights were set on the big night and the year passed all too quickly June 5th arrived and as we decorated M.P with maroon and pink crepe paper, our excitement began to build. Our dreams became reality as the walk-in began, follound by dinner and dancing at the Sheraton Inn The night came and went all too quickly, but it will always remain in our hearts as a cherished memory, never to be forgotten Linda Berard For the past four years Mr. LeClair has been principal at Mont Pleasant High. Through his stay here at M.R Mr. Le-Clair has established more of a friendly relationship rather than a principal student relationship. Although he has done an excellent job maintaining orderly conduct through our school, at times like an army sergeant, students still admire and look up to him. We the Class of ’82 thoroughly enjoyed sharing the past four years with him. We are eagerly looking forward to our future out of high school. As for Mr. LeClair, GOOD LUCK!!!! Were going.
