— foreword - In many respects our past three years here at Mont Pleasant may well be compared to the development of a mighty oak— from a tiny acorn, to its expanding breadth under which we have so often sought refuge. We have chosen “The Tree of Success” as our theme for this year’s Monlaneer, signifying our high school growth which began only three short years ago and which now culminates in graduation. Thus, like the giants of the forest who must endure the test of nature, we were like- wise nurtured in the elements of formative years which pre- pared us for the future. Beneath the earth in which our tree is situated, the admini- stration, guidance, and faculty serve as our “Roots of Growth.” It has been only through their constant patience and under- standing that our success has attained its true meaning. The underclassmen, who are the “Seeds of Success”, are the beginnings of our Tree and will continue to follow in our foot- steps to achieve their goals. Sports and Activities constitute a large portion of our school life at Mont Pleasant, and we feel that they have provided our “Branches of Triumph” throughout our three-year stay. And last, but never least, are the Seniors, the “Fruits of Ac- complishment” who have now become the fullness of the Tree. As Seniors, we have diligently labored to attain this goal in our high school career, and many of us will continue our learn- ing after graduation. But in each of us, whether Mont Pleasant represents one step as a terminal point in our academic pursuit, there resides the certainty that “The Tree of Success” atop the hill will never defoliate, its evergreen canopy a refuge for the legions of Jfcbool citizens yet to be.
