The purpose of the Home Economics Department at Mont Pleasant is for the student to learn to assume household responsibilities and to learn about the dynamics of human personality. Work is done informally in these classes and students acquire the self-discipline needed for success in the future. This year Industrial Arts has acquired a new name, Vo- cational Arts. Not only has the name changed but the pur- pose of the program as well. Industrial Arts was basically an orientation course, whereas Vocational Arts is designed as a trade course. Students are carefully supervised by the shop teachers who observe each student’s individual efforts and potentials. There are almost one thousand potential secretaries, ste- nographers, cashiers, file clerks, and business machine op- erators presently training for these various skills. Physical Education plays a vital role in the daily cur- riculum. It provides not only a period of relaxation, but it also encourages a mental alertness. Much stress has been placed upon physical education with the increasing import- ance of physical fitness programs. Accordingly, many inter- scholastic, as well as intramural, teams have been formed to engage in various school competitions. During the past few years, Driver Education has become an increasingly popular subject as a result of the growing enthusiasm of high school students to drive. These classes, divided into classroom instruction and practice driving, seek to teach the students correct driving procedures and com- mon courtesy that are extremely necessary for conscientious driving habits. Students of the Practical Nursing class study some human organs. Bonnie Kelly expresses the proper form in archery.
