RETIREMENTS MR. EDWARD SHERLEY Mr. Edward Sherley, a familiar figure around Mont Pleasant since its doors opened in 1932, will retire this June. At different times during these years he has taught all of the math courses, physics, and earth science. Vlfhile World War II was in prog- ress, he also had charge of the navigation and theory of flight classes. ln 1945, Mr. Sherley was officially appointed head of the mathematics department and has remained in that capacity until the present. In the year the school opened, he organized the first Hi-Y Club. Through the years he has been Class Dean three times. Since 1946, he has determined the ranking of the senior class, and until last year he was the only one to do so. After June, Mr. Sherley expects to generally en- joy himself. The Sherleyis are planning to move to La Jolla, in Southern California. They also plan to do some traveling. Mr. Sherley also intends to do research concerning the history of mathematics. MR. BELFORD PERKINS 6'Parting is such sweet sorrowf, In a few words Mr. Shakespeare sums up the sentiments of a fare- well. With these thoughts in mind, the students and faculty at Mont Pleasant High bid adieu to one of its outstanding members, Mr. Perkins. Mr. Perkins has been part of the school for thirty years. He was a class-dean three times in this period, and also during his stay he has sponsored the Sportsmans Clubg he enjoys the outdoors a great deal. A teacher of math and mechanical draw- ing, Mr. Perkins has come to the conclusion that the students of Mont Pleasant haven't changed. 'cThey are still fine young citizensf, he said. During retirement Mr. Perkins plans to spend his free time fishing and hunting, and he also wishes to travel across the United States. Mr. Edward Sherley Mr. Belford Perkins
