At Mont Pleasant we can be proud ot our complete and up-to-date mathematics de- partment. Many variations at this subject are taught from general mathematics straight up to and including calculus. This enables students with varied interests to take some form ot mathematics in their tour years in high school. The basic purpose ot mathe- matics is, to give the student knowledge, not only of the fundamental reasoning ot mathe- matics, but to teach him to be able to apply this acquired knowledge later on in lite. Theretore, a better understanding of the different languages helps a per- son be a better citizen. At Mont Pleasant We have a language depart- ment which trains students to under- stand, speak, read, and write modern languages. The method used is called the audio-lingual method. To help -the students develop a better under- standing ot the desired language, a language laboratory is provided in which students have an opportunity to listen frequently to the language being spoken. Band provides instruction and entertainment as it helps the individual participant become more proficient in performance and appre- ciation while offering good music to the lis- teners. The orchestra otters membership to students of special talents and more pro- nounced interests. ln choir, students develop an appreciation tor choral singing and are provided the op- portunity for extensive work in choral litera- ture.
