By acquiring knowledge, we have broadened our 'viewpoints on a multitude of subjects, includ- ing our outlook on life. At the present time the future is still misty and elusive. W e have spent many hours working hard and having good times, building an ever-mounting foun- dation for our future. Class parties and other activities have filled our three years. Through them we have learned to appreciate more fully the meaning of the word cooperation the ability to work with others. This is an important support for our foundation. Meeting diferent types of people and gaining new friend- ships, learning in our classes, working to gain knowledge: all these in future years will prove valuable assets. This '57 yearbook is a record of the three years which we have spent at Mont Pleasant. This is a record of our prep- aration-our FOUNDATION F OR THE FUTURE. f ,K sw, 4 I ,A f 1 KX jig.. Mr. Francis Morhous, a member of the faculty since Mont Pleasant began, and the principal for two and one-half years, left in January of 1957. He assumed the Nott Terrace High School principalship formally held by the late Roy E. Abbey. He will serve as principal of the Linton High School which, when completed, will replace Nott Terrace. Mr. Donald Sayles, a Mont Pleasant alumnus who has succeeded Mr. Morhous, was as- sistant principal here for two years. Mr. Charles Abba, who came to us in September of 1956 as our vice-principal, is also a former student. With the invaluable aid of the other members of the administration, they have continued to per- form well the exacting task of . . . 'cflratitude is the memory of the heart -.lean Baptiste Massieu We are grateful to a man who has served Mont Pleasant as teacher, assistant principal, and prin- cipal from September, 1931, until January 1, 1957. On that day he became the principal of Nott Terrace High School. He is devoted to the highest ideals and standards of education and has spent the years striving to maintain these principles in our school. It was with regret that we learned he was leav- ing us. We realized that We were losing a friend who has greatly influenced our lives and who has carried on the fine traditions of Mont Pleasant. As a special tribute to and appreciation for all that he has done, we, the Class of 1957, dedi- cate our yearbook to our former principal, MR. FRANCIS E. MORHOUS. Page 8 si l DONALD E. In addition, our hearts are filled with memories of the wonderful times we have had as a class. W e have a task ahead of us-to go forth into the world alone. It is important to have as part of our foundation an opportunity to develop our own likes, dislikes, abilities, and interests so that we may be better prepared to give our personal contri- butions. Almost every field of interest is included in the curriculum. English and history form the base of everyone's education. Those pre- paring for college are offered science and language. Clerical work, such as typing and shorthand, identi- hes our future secretaries. Specialized fields found represented in the technical school give boys an op- portunity to begin a study of their chosen careers. just as our classes are vital to our foundation, so our teachers are vital to our classes. The Plainsmen, trying to avenge two straight defeats at the hands of the Hill looked as if they might return home with an opening win, but halfback Virgil Griffin scored two quick touchdowns to lead the Pleasant team to a hard-fought 19-18 victory. On September 29, the Mulvaneymen pounded out a 42-6 victory over Albany at Hawkins Stadium in their first league game. Five Raiders scored to insure their thirteenth straight victory. Mont Pleasant met Newburg Free Academy October 5 at Schenectady Stadium. They showed good offensive power and a tight defense in rolling to a 38-0 win. The Raiders rolled up more than 500 yards, rushing and passing while overpowering Amsterdam 53-0 on October 12. The Raiders' string of 15 straight victories over a three-year span ended abruptly as they fell victim to Kingston on the opponent's home field by a score of 14--7. Playing poorly on a wet field, the Hill failed to click in many scoring chances. Kingston's ground attack accounted for both Yellow Jacket scores. Pleasant rebounded October 26 against Troy by emerging 20-0 victors over the fellow class A leaguers, cementing the Class A league title for the Hill. Election Day saw the Raiders completely outclass their cross-town oppon- ents in rambling to a 52-12 victory. Scoring in every period, the Hill totaled more points than ever before in the annual Nott Terrace-Mont Pleasant classic. l Richard Koretniclti, first string fullback, injured W after the Kingston game and out of play for the rest of the season. 4 lm ,iff-it I Gery Trout and Coach Mulveney discuss the , ,, next play. Highlights of regular season play were the 52-47 victory over Nott Terrace and the 76-72 upset of Oneonta. A The Red Raiders poured out all their energy and skill into the Mont Pleasant-Nott Terrace game, hustling from the start to finish. Their spirit reached its peak, adding the spark to win. At Oneonta, paced by Billy Kirvin's record-tying 35 points, the Raiders came from behind to win one of the most thrilling games of the season. The Hill, showing lack of experience, started slowly but gained momentum as the season progressed, finishing with a 4-4 league record. Behind the scenes, however, we find several moti- vating factors. The award winners of our school have contributed by building the reputation of Mont Pleas- ant. The honors they have received have rnade n worthwhile to carry out Mont Pleasant's prestige in her yearbook. This we have attempted to the best of our ability. It was the advertisers however, who made our efforts possible. The cast held to the old saying The show must go on', and it did-eafter much excitement and fears that it wouldn't. Members of the cast and Mrs. Hodgkins, director of the play, all had opening night jitters, but in spite of the frequent jitters and the occasion- al forgotten lines, the play was a big success. This year's play will be presented on March I5 and 16. It is a comedy entitled '6Dear Ruthi' and concerns a young girl lPat Ciagiacumoj who writes letters to service men and signs her older sisteris name, Ruth lleanette Holeval to them. Bill Seawright lDick lV1cClimansl comes home to see Ruth and finds her already engaged. She has never even heard of Bill! Through a series of plot complications Ruth finally marries Bill.
