Kitching who until their recent deaths were members of Mont Pleasant High School faculty. FRANCES MADDEN Assistant Principal 1931-1948 Administrator, scholar, and teacher; sympa- thetic friend and counselor; a dignified and gracious lady loved by all who knew her. NORMAN KITCHING Physical Training Instructor Track and Cross-Country Coach 1931-1949 Teacher, coach, and friend to a great many boys. His personality and enthusiasm will long be remembered by those who knew him as will the fine cross-country runners and trackmen that developed under his tutelage. This year there are 31 seniors in the classes. The members of this group attend classes every morning, and go to work in local stores every afternoon. Their experiences on the job vary but usually include selling, stockkeeping, display, and office work. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the members work in the stores full time and have memor- able contacts with crowds, shoplifters, and lost child- ren. These pupils learn a great deal about stores, mer- chandise, and all kinds of people so that they are well prepared to fill important positions when they graduate. In order to provide a place where pupils with this interest in France can enjoy a close contact with French civilization and at the same time improve their ability to speak French, the FRENCH CLUB was formed in 1932 by Miss Miriam Croat. They have also had the same English, history, and economics that one will find in the college-prepartory academic courses, thus assuring a balance between the aca- demic and technical fields. The technical boys spend considerable time in the shops and laboratories where they actually use their mathematics and science, so they learn by doing. As a result they can enter either industry or engineering college with equal facility.
