Ardis Kenyon and Gerold Tucker Ruth Moriarty sang a Chl ness song Mrs Lovell gave each member of the class a Blue Willow plate Another time, John DeMeyer, Richard Slercn, and James Finnegan dressed as Arabs and went around the room singing 'We Three Kings of Orient Are ' Then came the day we entered the high school building Miss Hynes made Science class interesting by playing base ball with science words Most of us liked to be pitcher Mrs 0wen's room had a hobby day with wayne Stebbins show ing his key collection and Kenneth Wright explaining how to make model airplanes We also enjoyed our annual class picnics to either Look Park or Crystal Lake Jimmy Finnegan would often be absent at the teacher's request after a d of skunk catching Jean Bradway and Bob Chalue received the eighth grade awards Finally we became freshmen Initiation was a grand way to begin our high school days Jimmy Finnegan gave a speech on the high school steps which attracted a large crowd, prov ing that he must have been some sort of politician We can truly say we all had our fill of initiation, and we were a little exhuberant when we tried the same on the poor freshmen in our senior year Those freshman days were full of fun In Latin I class Betty Freeman used to put on rouge and lip stick and Ted Barnes and Alec Lolas would kick off Corrine Scott's loafers and hang them on the door knobs Mary Braskie changed from the college course to the commercial School Daze,' and we proved what most 're hmen manage to prove, that we were too inexperienced to win Washing the floor for the Senior Reception was too pro dlglous a task for us freshmen To begin with, Pat Mangan lello developed a large sized egg on the left side of her head from being hit with a broom handle We nearly gave the janitor heart failure when we washed the gym floor Instead of putting the soap in the pail of water, we used a new tech nique and put lt on the floor itself the better to slide on But regardless of all this, our reception was a social suc cess, and we enjoyed putting it on for the seniors in return for initiation We dcn't know how much Miss Malonls appreciated having us for sophomores one full year but we enjoyed ourselves, es pecially those of us who were taking home five subjects every night Our second dance the Sophomore Hop, was a lot of fun and also a success, this time socially and financially Our one-act play was 'She Stcops to Conquer ' Thanks went to Bert Jacobs for doing a wonderful job of covering up for Corrine Scott's tardiness in getting dressed Bert fixed the fire for five minutes before Corrine appeared on the stage HI course on the second day. Our first one-act play was 'High . , - 0 D
