aaa .Malory One beautiful September day in 1939 the future class of '51 entered the portals of a very important part of their life First grade was full of fascination In fact, Ruth Moriarty and Bob Chalue were so fascinated they came too early and had to remain after school Corrine Scott had pretty long curls, with a tempting hair ribbon to pull off At Mechanic Street School Miss Bennett had her second graders ln a circle to read She had baby bonnets ready for use if the boys got out of hand Also prominent ln our second year was the lavatory stage, which was a per feot excuse at quiz time As we got older, one girl would watch over the younger children during lunch time The first and last time two girls were allowed together was when Dottie McCarron invited Mary Sullo to Join her seems a bottle of milk accidentally spilled over the desk top, blotter and books In the fourth grade Mrs Osborn marched her angelic pu pile down to the Methodist Church to have their less angelic voices recorded She also organized an Audubon Bird Club The officers, Jean Bradway, President, Kenneth Heintz, Vice class during every meeting Jimmy must have taken thousands of notes, and whenever any one left the room it was neces sary to whisper the password in Jean's ear to get back in There was more traveling carried on than business Guided by our fifth grade teacher, Miss Monaghan we put on our first play in celebration of Christmas Jimmy Finns gan was Santa Claus, and was stuffed with pillows which re fused to stay where they belonged At recess and during noon hour Phyllis Coolong Florence Walsh, and Jean Bradway used to act out pictures in which T rone Power starred They must have done 'The Black Swan to perfection It was the only one they knew At Mechanic Street, on the very last day there, Mary Sullo, Pat Manganiello and Grace Haraghey spent the last few hours in the exile of the office for knocking Robert Foley down, and he had to sit on the stairs for getting in their way Both classes met at State Street School We accomplished a great deal in that one year Artificial respiration was taught and along the sports line, soccer baseball was dis covered, but more interesting was the art of losing the ball in the river A highlight of this year was a Chinese play entitled 'Precious Gem' starring Pat Lunden, Jeanne Sproat, O . It , e President, James Finnegan, Secretaryg eat in front of the D n 1 , 1 I
