GIRLS' SPORTS BASKETBALL The girls in the class of 1951 have been very prominent in sports. They have had the spirit and ability even if they never won any championships Although there were no candidates from our freshman class for the basketball team, in the sophomore year we were well represented Mary Braskie, Shirley Beaulieu, and Ruth Moriarty were forwards, and Pat Manganiello, Ldllian Boudreau, and Corrine Scott were guards Shirley Beaulieu received a letter that year Almost the whole starting team was composed of Juniors the next year. Mary Braskie, Shirley Beaulieu, and Ruth Moriarty were forwards, while the guards were Corrine Scott Pat Mangan lello, Lillian Boudreau, Joan Miller, and Mary Sullo Joan Swanson was assistant manager. There were six team members in the senior year, Co captains Lillian Boudreau, and Mary Braskle, Shirley Beaulieu, Ruth Mor iarty, Corrine Scott, and Pat Manganiello Other players were Joan Miller, Mary Sullo, and Pat Boudreau Incidentally, Pat became letterman her first year on the team and showed she had great ability by reaching double figures in nearly every game Joan Swanson was manager Much of the girls' success was due SOFTBALL It seems as though Monson High has never been too inter ested in softball, but the class of 1951 has enjoyed the game and tried to stir up a little more enthusiasm Games were played with Ludlow, Brimfield, and Warren Each year the girls showed greater improvement In the freshman year, we had four girls on the team Lillian Bou reau was catcher, and Joan Miller, Pat Manganiello, and Pat Boudreau played in the outfield That year we lost three games and won only one During the sophomore year we evened the score with two victories and two defeats Lillian Bcudreau was catcher, Jean Bradway, shortstop, and Joan Miller, Pat Boudreau, and Pat Manganlello played the outfield In our Junior year we really began to get interested which showed in our record of three victories and one defeat Jean Bradway was shortstop Pat Boudreau, third baseman and relief pitcher, Lillian Boudreau, catcher, and Dotty Francis, Joan Miller, Pat Manganlello, and Joan Swanson, outflelders As seniors, we hope for a season of victories to the training by the1r.ccaoh, Miss Fllomenia Pltraszkiewlcz.
