It , e President, James Finnegan, Secretaryg eat in front of the D n 1 , 1 I Ardis Kenyon and Gerold Tucker Ruth Moriarty sang a Chl ness song Mrs Lovell gave each member of the class a Blue Willow plate Another time, John DeMeyer, Richard Slercn, and James Finnegan dressed as Arabs and went around the room singing 'We Three Kings of Orient Are ' Then came the day we entered the high school building Miss Hynes made Science class interesting by playing base ball with science words Most of us liked to be pitcher Mrs 0wen's room had a hobby day with wayne Stebbins show ing his key collection and Kenneth Wright explaining how to make model airplanes We also enjoyed our annual class picnics to either Look Park or Crystal Lake Jimmy Finnegan would often be absent at the teacher's request after a d of skunk catching Jean Bradway and Bob Chalue received the eighth grade awards Finally we became freshmen Initiation was a grand way to begin our high school days Jimmy Finnegan gave a speech on the high school steps which attracted a large crowd, prov ing that he must have been some sort of politician We can truly say we all had our fill of initiation, and we were a little exhuberant when we tried the same on the poor freshmen in our senior year Those freshman days were full of fun In Latin I class Betty Freeman used to put on rouge and lip stick and Ted Barnes and Alec Lolas would kick off Corrine Scott's loafers and hang them on the door knobs Mary Braskie changed from the college course to the commercial School Daze,' and we proved what most 're hmen manage to prove, that we were too inexperienced to win Washing the floor for the Senior Reception was too pro dlglous a task for us freshmen To begin with, Pat Mangan lello developed a large sized egg on the left side of her head from being hit with a broom handle We nearly gave the janitor heart failure when we washed the gym floor Instead of putting the soap in the pail of water, we used a new tech nique and put lt on the floor itself the better to slide on But regardless of all this, our reception was a social suc cess, and we enjoyed putting it on for the seniors in return for initiation We dcn't know how much Miss Malonls appreciated having us for sophomores one full year but we enjoyed ourselves, es pecially those of us who were taking home five subjects every night Our second dance the Sophomore Hop, was a lot of fun and also a success, this time socially and financially Our one-act play was 'She Stcops to Conquer ' Thanks went to Bert Jacobs for doing a wonderful job of covering up for Corrine Scott's tardiness in getting dressed Bert fixed the fire for five minutes before Corrine appeared on the stage HI course on the second day. Our first one-act play was 'High . , - 0 D As Juniors our important date was the day our class rings ar rived We certainly were proud of them Chemistry class caused a few raised eyebrows, es eclally on the part of Mr Moriarty One lovely spring day Ken elntz and Bob Chalue were heating a test tube when the cork blew off and went sailing through the window Those boys certainly had good aim Dottie McCarron had a habit of breaking something, which started off the first day of lab when she broke a cylinder Our Junior Prom was very well organized We only wish we could put one on every year Oh for the good old days when we could get out of every period to decorate the gym The more the merrler and it was 'The Sisters MacIntosh' with its tiny cast of Robert Chalue, Pat Manganlello, and Mary Braskie won the One act Play Contest for us Mary and Pat made delightful old ladies While in our Junior year we also held our first scrapdrlve, and added to our meager funds for the Washington Trip At last we entered the senior class and it was truly a year of work and fun We held sorapdrlves, food sales, a Booster Night and sold candy After we gave the freshmen a rough time at initia tion, they became good friends of ours Our senior pictures came in time for Christmas and turned out very well We spent a busy Take It with You ' Mary Sullo looked very comfortable on the sofa during her nap Mary Braskie very bravely picked up one of the cats when it started to run away, even though she does not particu larly care for the furry little animals Three of our boys entered the armed services George Cody, Henry Gauthier and Roger Pascale We wish them the best of luck I dcn't think any senior class ever held as many class meetings as we did If president Bob Chalue d1dn't appear in front of the class during any spare moment, the class immediately voted for a meeting We must say he controlled the class extremely well Robert Foley was kept busy collecting back dues, his pockets al ways Jingled Mr Lewis did not approve of our forgetfulness with reference to bringing excuses for absences Our One act Play was 'Mooncalf Mugford ' The highlight in our twelve year school career was, of course, the Washington Trip Mr Grieve and Miss Malonis had their hands full making us behave It was worth all of our hard work, because it was an educational and entertaining trip We only wish we could go again together The final weeks we spent in school were busy and exciting But the day finally came when we sat on the stage to receive our cherished diplomas We must admit it was a hard struggle at times, but it was well worth it Although there were many sad faces at graduation, we were not completely sad, for this was not the end of our youth, but the beginning of our adulthood The class of 1951 will re member its wonderful school life forever day signing and exchanging them. They have had the spirit and ability even if they never won any championships Although there were no candidates from our freshman class for the basketball team, in the sophomore year we were well represented Mary Braskie, Shirley Beaulieu, and Ruth Moriarty were forwards, and Pat Manganiello, Ldllian Boudreau, and Corrine Scott were guards Shirley Beaulieu received a letter that year Almost the whole starting team was composed of Juniors the next year. Mary Braskie, Shirley Beaulieu, and Ruth Moriarty were forwards, while the guards were Corrine Scott Pat Mangan lello, Lillian Boudreau, Joan Miller, and Mary Sullo Joan Swanson was assistant manager. There were six team members in the senior year, Co captains Lillian Boudreau, and Mary Braskle, Shirley Beaulieu, Ruth Mor iarty, Corrine Scott, and Pat Manganiello Other players were Joan Miller, Mary Sullo, and Pat Boudreau Incidentally, Pat became letterman her first year on the team and showed she had great ability by reaching double figures in nearly every game Joan Swanson was manager Much of the girls' success was due SOFTBALL It seems as though Monson High has never been too inter ested in softball, but the class of 1951 has enjoyed the game and tried to stir up a little more enthusiasm Games were played with Ludlow, Brimfield, and Warren Each year the girls showed greater improvement In the freshman year, we had four girls on the team Lillian Bou reau was catcher, and Joan Miller, Pat Manganiello, and Pat Boudreau played in the outfield That year we lost three games and won only one During the sophomore year we evened the score with two victories and two defeats Lillian Bcudreau was catcher, Jean Bradway, shortstop, and Joan Miller, Pat Boudreau, and Pat Manganlello played the outfield In our Junior year we really began to get interested which showed in our record of three victories and one defeat Jean Bradway was shortstop Pat Boudreau, third baseman and relief pitcher, Lillian Boudreau, catcher, and Dotty Francis, Joan Miller, Pat Manganlello, and Joan Swanson, outflelders As seniors, we hope for a season of victories to the training by the1r.ccaoh, Miss Fllomenia Pltraszkiewlcz. mg' E fix u ,-.,. f CT-IEERLEAD1 RS L2-fi fa!
