A Smile Will Make the World Go Around I have seen and known many men who are considered rich But the richest person I know is a man who has not a cent in money I may be considered a fool by many people for having made a state ment like that, but who really is the fool? The richest man is one who goes around with a smile on his face Now, how can smile make one rich? If you figure in terms of money, you will come to the conclusion that this is not possible But one thing you over look is that money cannot buy everything It can only buy the material things Where as a smile, as cheap as it is will make the people around you happy If you can make people happy, you possess riches beyond anyone else People who hav this asset are more than willing to share it with others You try it, and see if it doesn't make the world go around again for those who think it has stopped Gerald Drugge '52 The Avalanche at the Beach Junior Young and Jimmy Blake, two sixteen year old boys, decided to take a trip to the beach one hot afternoon in July They had their mothers fix them a lunch and they got their beach blankets and radios ready to take the radio and lay down under the shade of a large beach umbrella Because the radio was turned on they didn't hear two small boys holler, nAvalanche W There was a loud thundering noise as something large and heavy rolled towards them Junior and Jimmy both looked up and then quickly covered their heads with their arms as the avalanche of fat rolled onto them When they regained consciousness they were lying in a hospital Junior had a broken leg and several bruises, and Jimmy had a broken arm and a large cut on his face, caused by the wom an's bracelet Just then a nurse came in followed by a young man and Junior's and Jimmy's parents The man was the lawyer of Mrs Van Snoot the billioniare of Long Meadow As they stood around the beds of the two boys, inquiring about their injuries, the lawyer cleared his throat and said, 'Mrs Van Snoot, as you know, is a very large women weighing five hundred and ten pounds She was spending the afternoon at the beach and dozed off, when two little boys gave her a shove and she started rolling She is very sorry that this accident occurred and hopes you'll accept her apologies and a thousand dollar check apiece The boys' parents had insurance to cover the hospital bill, but Jimmy and Junior accepted the thousand dollar checks and gave them to the March of Dimes Fund They hope it will help the boys and girls who have to spend most, if not all of their lives, 1 the hospital, instead of just a few days there like they did Carol Johnson '55 . . a 0 .7 o . e .When they arrived they spread out the blankets, turned on I O , n
