PING PONG TOURNAMENT This year the Annual Table Tennis Tournament, between var1ous members of the student body and the faculty, started off w1th thlrty elght people and four masters partlcipating None of the masters, however, were able to get lnto the second round fnow they know that one cannot play Ping Pong mth a piece of chalk! Mr Benton, the master who asslgned the dlfferent players to the1r opponents, looked over the field to flnd one ho would be an easy mark for h1s dubious Upaddle power W Just as he was loslng hope of f1nd1ng anyone who could be overpowered by the WBenton Barrel Hblln cm St8T10US serve learned on one of his man trips to far off landsj, he came upon the name SMITH Quickly, before an thlng could happen, Mr Benton put hlmself opposite this easy SOUnd1Dg name Oddly enough, Smlth came through and defeated Mr Benton Smlth plled up more and more victorles The ping pong world was astounded! Llttle groups of ping pong players huddled together ln fear The brave jeered and boasted that they could beat the m sterlous USm1th U The falnt-hearted pleaded mercy Smlth lgnored the pleas and laughed at the jeers, and with grim determinatlon, fought h1S way through the vanguard right up to the semifinals On the nlght of the semlflnals and the flnals the gym was ablaze w1th llghts In the center of the floor was the Speclal Game Table, surrounded by the grandstands In the semiflnals Sherman played Warren Warren had a lot of Hstuffn on the ball, but Sherman seemed able to return anything Warren second set of semlflnals, the lnfamous Sm1th played Swanson Swanson played a good defenslve game, but Sm1th's t8TT1f1C serves and follow through were too much, and once more Smlth was vlctorlous Now'the play off the odds were even -Sherman 1S a terrlfic defense man and seemed to be able to toss back anyth1ng that any one could toss to h1m On the other hand, Smith seemed to have a serve whlch nobody could handle Would lt be the old problem of the immovable obgect and the 1rres1st1ble force? Well, if lt were, the problem was solved, because the lFTBSlStlb16 force CSm1thj won after a hard struggle At the end of the game, Smlth was glven an ldentlflcation bracelet, and Sherman was glven a school pin Upon rece1v1ng the bracelet, bmlth dec1ded that h1s name was not long enough or dlStlDCt enough to be engraved upon it, therefore, he immedlately cnanged lt to USzostk1ew1cz U could give him, and Sherman won after a close battle.
