QQQQQQQQQ Cushman Hall EUSHMAN HALL, the main dormitory of the Academy, was given as a memorial to Frank Chapin Cushman by his uncle, Thaddeus l.. Cushman, in 1904. lt is a three- story building of Flemish bond brick and granite, containing about thirty rooms. Its location and beauty make it one of the notable architectural units of the Academy. The first Hoor contains the common ,room at the south end and the dining room at the Q north end. The former is the recreational center of the school. Here, the students gather Q5 on Sunday evening during the school year to sing, and listen to inspirational talks by 2 the headmaster and others, while a cheery fire in the fire-place softens the vigor of a Q New England winter. A piano, ping pong tables, and checker boards are provided for Q amusement. Two large divans add to the comfort of the students. Q The dining room is large and pleasant. Care is taken in the seating arrangement so that social contacts may be widened. The students alternate in waiting on the Q tables. Adjoining the dining room, in the front of the building, is a reception room ,Q comfortably furnished where students and masters may entertain friends and relatives. ' The apartment of the matron is on the main floor also. The slee ing rooms are located P Q on the second and third floors. These are double and single rooms. The end rooms on Q each Hoor are occupied by the masters. The whole atmosphere of the dormitory is Q home-like. P 4 An oil painting of Frank Chapin Cushman hangs in the hall facing the entrance. lm ln the common room a bronze tablet given by Mrs. Rufus P. Cushman in 1928 honors Q his memory. On this tablet is placed each year the name of the boy, who in the judg- q ment of his fellow students, best exemplifies the ideals of clean living, fair-dealing, truthfulness, and industry.
