This year 's track and field team had a prosperous indoor season. The Lions won the Sectional Championships and placed third in the Intersectionals. At the Staten Island Indoor Championships the varsity dominated both the running and field events, as it won the team title by more than 75 points. There were some seniors who stood out as super athletes. Paul Sita and Kris Szabadhegy were speedsters in the hurdles and on the track, as well as, their super performances in the field events, such as: the High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault and Shot Put. Scott Farrell, Dave Kelly, Ian Cle- ments and Mike Carpinello were distance aces leading the team in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Anthony Buccigrossi on the comeback trail displayed some fine performances in the high jump and javeling while Arthur Daunt, Mike Noone and Lance Armstrong bolstered the team in the relay events. Dom Celen- tano was a big factor in the mile walk in the City and Island Competition as he set many school records. The years ahead look good as well with returningjuniors Jim Wynne, Dave Dorans, Andy Ferenca, John McGivney and Joe Serpig sophomores Chris Marsala, Joe Nicotra, Mike Harring- ton, Mike Coumo and shot put stand out Dom Marandi. The 1981-82 Varsity Swimming Team, under the instrumental guidance of Coach Conrad Meibauer, completed one of its most successful swim seasons in its history. The team with a 7-0 league record, won the CHSAA Dual Meet Championships, and flnished the season with a 9-1 overall record. At the Metropolitan Championships, Farrell finished an impressive second to the New Jersey State Champions, St. Joseph 's. The Lions then moved to the CHSAA Individual Championships where they dominatedg beating the closest competition by over 50 points. The Medaly Realy team of John Sutera, Gary Triano, Robert Leonard and Alfred Mayerhoff broke the 7 year school record and the league record with an outstanding time of 1:44-.866. Senior Gary Troiano broke the 7 year old breaststroke record with a time of 1:06.0. Junior William Leonard broke the 500 yd. Freestyle record with a time of 5:02.8. Ten Lions were selected to the CHSAA All-star Team. They are senior Co-Captains Pete Feeney and Vin Reitano, seniors Al Mayerhoff, Jim Malone and Gary Troianog juniors Robert and William Leonard, sophomores John Sutera and Brian Perkinsg and freshman diver Peter Chiasera. After the regular season, twelve of the Lions went to the prestigious Catholic National Championships where they placed 5th with 98 points which was their best finish ever.
