The team finished its season with a first place finish in the City Championships and a second place finish in the State Championships. Under the coaching of Mr. Walsh, his first year as varsity Cross Country Coach, the team finished with five first place and three second place fin- ishes. The opening meet was at Westlake which gave Farrell a second place finish behind St. Bernard's of Conn. At Iona the young harriers gained their first win. The next week Farrell placed second to LaSalle of Philidelphia. The only disappoint- ment came during the Eastern States Championships where they came in twelfth. Coming back the lions went 1-2 to win the sectional title. The team was led all season by Scott Farrell with a second place finish in the city and eighth in the state. Right behind him was team captain Ian Clements who had an outstanding season finishing first in the sectionals and second in the Island Championships. Rounding out the team were Dave Dorans with a very consistent season and Mike Carpin- ello. Finishing out of the top seven were Dave Kelly, Mike Noone, and Andy Ferencz, who interchanged positions through- out the season. John McGivney joined the varsity in the State Meet and helped the team with his 46th place finish.
