Theee have been the yeare during which the harmonious development of the whole man should have taken place, physical, volitional, intellectual and religious. You have followed a program of Christian education which has been geared to train you to become, under the inspiration of divine grace and the orderly pursuit of intellectual and moral truth, true Christian gentlemen. The courses of studies, the religious training, the rules of discipline, the athletic and social activities ... all have been designed to develop your soul and body, heart and mind that they may help you to fulfill the purpose of existence in this life and the next. We hope you have acquired and organized desirable skills, understandings, attitudes, ideals, and habits that will enable you to live in conformity with your ultimate destiny. l pray, as do all the faculty, that the changes made in you have brought understanding, peace and a complete way of life. The paper was in monthly editions and at- tracted the interest of the students, and also supplemented their education with a knowledge of the functions of various activities and societies in the school. George Fredenberg, a member of the sen- ior class, together with his associates worked laudably in bringing this feature to all of us at Coyle. I ii Editors Donald Bowen and Bill Martin F Brother Francis C.S.C., the 1956 Review Advisor, who as- sumed this position as a be- ginner this year, performed in a capacity truly equalizing him to an experienced veteran in such a task involving great responsibilities. xi Pg Social Editors Ed Sweeney and Ed LaBrecque The 1956 Review Staff has worked dili- gently since September in editing this annual. A great deal of stren- uous effort has been put forth in endeavor- ing to create an inter- esting and original book. Operating as a team we have greatly benefited from this en- terpriseg aggregating rf Jr ,f Literary Editor Frank Boucher it Sports Editors Ed Coyle and Frank Donahue ideas and knowledgeg functioning on the principles of a busi- ness contract. Knowing your interest in the first graduating class under your principalship hack in l956. I thought you would like to know about our second reunion which we held in the Coyle gym last week. Only fifty grads showed up. so with pencil and pad in hand, I inter- viewed each one. Talk about clianges-WOW! Some of the boys are already fat. others bald. some married, parents. street cleaners. etc. By the way. you remember John uludgell Murphy, the corridor lawyer. He now controls the city of Brockton as its big political boss, THE MAYOR. Murphy says, 'II owe it all to Donald O'Brien alias O. B. something or other. the legal mind. Whatta mind?'?'? As l walked around the gym I spotted two big execu- tives. They were none other than Don and Dave Bowen, who flew into town last week from Santiago, Chile where they are building big things. fBowen Construction Com- panyl. like bridges and roads for the government down there. Frank '4The Toe Donahue and Chuck Bun Bun Holden told me they just finished their third year with the New York Giants football team and they informed me they were thinking of signing another year's contract. Smokey Walsh, our class's outstanding basketball play- er. is now coach of the Boston Celtics. I asked him what the next year's predictions were and he replied, With my star center Bruce 'Backwards' Baacke we ought to take first place in the N.B.A. For the occasion the committee employed a small swing band called The Taunton Hotshots. In it were our old classmates Rene Poirier, Joe Buczek, Dan Berth- iaume. and Pete Curran. Since they graduated from high school they've been playing at night clubs, but in the past year they had done some recordings. In one corner of the gym were the professional men of our class, Doctor Gasson, you remember, is a dental surgeon in Seymour, Conn., Fred Connelly, is a surgeon at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and Bob Guillette. a dentist, also is practicing. All have become very successful. As I resumed my interviews, I heard a lot of banter going on in one corner of the gym. There were all of the engineers-Jim Antosca. Bill Overton, Hook Cor- reia. Walt Stuart and Bob Kelly. Jim, a civil engineer, was telling them about the high school he had just com- pleted in Watertown, Mass. Walt Stuart, an electrical engineer was telling them how he wired the hot seat at San Quentin. I am sure you remember Bill Odgen. In my estimation he was a credit to our class. He told me he is an atomic intelligence man for the army. ln the middle of the gym chewing and blowing bub- bles with hubhle gum was none other than Bob DeLuca. Splat! went one bubble and all over his coat went the gum. You see he inherited his uncle's gum factory and at that moment he was all stuck up. Frank Boucher. if you recall, played the piano for the glee club. Well. he was spotted by Ed LaBrecque, PRO V fx -1 .jjzgzvsf -1- v--,...,,,-,L g s --1-se' -Nevin-rf.-1+ va -sv..r ' A 1- W' KA W- 'mi .. of xt, g. - PHECY a talent scout for Ether Godfried. He won the show and in later years got his own show called 'I don't care if its August, September, or October as long as you buy Can- delabra Soap, the soap that Duz everything. I wandered over toward the stage and there I met Dick Weaver. Paul Croteau, and Dick Mulhern, successful pharmacists. I chatted with them for a few minutes then I left to interview my next patient. Since Paul Mahoney became a veterinarian in Stough- ton he tells me all the animals are pretty healthy due to the fact that the town's mayor, Pete Gallacher, built him an animal hospital. When I stopped to talk to Jim Doyle he told me he was a TV director for the NBC network, and two of his most promising actors are Ray Coogan and Joe Bartel. Dick Miller became General Motor's top salesman this year as he sold 1,000 cars. Wow! Is he burning up the car sales! Speaking of GM, Bill Thomas is their new test driver. Out of our class only a few fellows became teachers. George Carey, John Birch are teaching in Attleboro. .Iohn Moynihan and Bob Whittemore have become FBI men and have been doing a fine job in keeping our country clean . . . with brooms? .lim Brennan, whom you probably remember as being a fellow who liked a good joke, has become another Houdini. He told me he tried to saw one of his girls in half and do you know he surprised me. He was telling the truth. PM Frank Harrison was telling me he bought a 2000-acre horse ranch down in Texas. Louie Brezinski, also has a ranch, a cattle ranch, in Nevada. From what I hear he really 'fMoos them down. Sitting next to Braz was Louie Atlas,' Grimaldi. Louie is one of my closest friends and he told me that the restaurant business was picking up since he started hav- ing nightly shows. He mentioned to me one of his most famous acts and that was Pete Corr. Pete does impersona- tions when he's not eating pizza. Do you remember Frank Santilli? At the Olympics he won the weight-lifting contest. Frank told me he got all his muscles from working in his father's foundry and eating those wonderful Wheaties, breakfast of Chumps. .lack Kelleher, Ron Donley, Dave Clemmey have be- come top chemists, working for the Hercules Power Com- pany. Well Brother, I've got to get to my next class. I teach social studies at B. C. High School. I hope our class can have the pleasure of seeing you again. Take care of yourself and God bless you. Respectfully yours, Harry Qualters 1 'hm COMMENCEMENT Once again, the month of June will witness the long-awaited Graduation Exercises of the Class of 1956. Coyle graduates are honored to have His Excellency Bishop James L. Connolly, Bishop of Fall River, preside at Commencement Exercises and award the diplomas. The traditionally beautiful ceremony is heightened by His Ex- cellency's propitious presence. Donald Bowen, highest ranking senior, will be valedictorian and will receive the Brother Marcian Medal for scholastic excellence. Charles Guillette will be salutator- ian, being the second highest-ranking senior. 1 xx Ji .LE fi, Q L ,X 'R' ,X f 5 on f v f ,.-.- 'P' I .
