Tl-IEME THE TRAINING OF A WARRIOR OF CHRIST As in the days, when knighthood was in flower, the Church selected Saint Michael and Saint George to be the heavenly patrons and models for all Christian knights, so was the figure of the Viking Warrior chosen to be the model of the fighting spirit of the Coyle Warrior fused to the Christian principles of Knighthood which pledged its sword in defense of Truth. The emblem of the Warrior stands as a symbolical delineation of the men of Coyle, Warriors of Christ, who are ambitious, energetic leaders with an unconguerable courage in the propagation of Truth. For his armor, he invests himself with zeal in the labors undertaken for his God and for his neighbor. lustice transforms his breastplate, while true judgement serves as his helmet against the attacks of the false ideologies of materialism, socialism and communism, so prci minent in the world today. As a defense against all selfish tendencies, he raises his invincible shield of equity towards all men regardless of race, color or creed as his Master did before him. Thus girded, he fights falsehood and discrimination, full well knowing that he who fights the good fight will receive a heavenly kingdom of glory and a ciown of beauty at the hand of the Lord Whom he has served in this ife. A Thus it is, that these natural and supernatural virtues of the Warrior find voice in the Warrior's Oath. Each student, worthy of the name of Warrior, thrills to the tones as well as to the meaning of this pledge to his God and to all mankind. As a Warrior of Coyle, I pledge myself to do my best in my duty towards my God and towards my neighbor, , to obey and defend with equal vigor the Laws of God and the laws of this State, to serve my fellowmen in any cap- acity that is deemed necessary as long as it does not con- flict with the primary end of my life and my moral obliga- tions, to suffer death rather then to accede a particle of the deposit of Faith, to keep myself mentally awake and physically fit, and to accept any trials that God may send me as a means of expiation for sins and the salvation of my soul as well as that of my neighbor. With the high ideals of this oath ringing in his ears, the student passes through his four years of moral, intellectual and physical train- ing with the determination of purpose to prove himself worthy to be called a Warrior of Coyle, dedicated to the service of Our Lord. It is the raison d'etre of this Coyle Review to illustrate visually as well as verbally these different influences which bend and mold the individual personality of the student to best fulfill those various positions as Catholic leaders that challenges his native aptitudes. In this manner, the training under which a Coyle Warrior must go to become truly a Warrior of Christ, as well as those ideals and phil- osophies of life which color and permeate all his fields of study and form the well-springs from which he will draw nourishment to sub- stain him in his future decisions, will be made more concrete.
