For awhile it looked as if the undefeated season of i946 was to be repeated again by the Warriors of TQ47. This undefeated record, begun in Coyle 24 - St. The Warriors, with but six out of the twenty- two letter men returning from the i946 un- defeated team, surprised the local grid fans by walloping the stubborn St. Maryls team, Q4-6. Showing a fast, well-drilled attack, the Blue and Gold pounded the Saintis line to crash over two brilliant touchdowns, scored by Cas Malinowski becoming the longest winning streak in Eastern Massachusetts. 'lhen came the dark day when the shadow of Durfee spelled doom to the recofrd. Let us permit the record to speak for itse 1 Mary's of Waltham 6 and Qscar Peters. Following the same pro- cedure in the second half, the Warriors led by Captain Paul Bourdon and Jim l-lill, crossed the goal-line twice again. Leading the attack for St. Marys, HSkipperH Barnicle and Joe l'larring- ton combined to give the Purple and White their only score of the game. Coyle 46 - North Providence 0 Facing an injury-ridden North Providence team, the Warriors smashed their way to a 46-O victory. Before claiming the ball for an offensive play, Coyle scored twice on blocked North Providence punts, by a combination of Bob Shawfs blocking and Tom McCann falling on the ball in the end zone. Later in the first half, Page seventyatwo Malinowski romped 65 yards on an off-tackle run for a touchdown. The second half pro- duced scores by Qscar Peters on a pass from Bourdon, an off-tackle run by Mal, this time for 60 yards, Bourdon again on a 'IO yard cross- buck, and the last, by Cumisky after a 30 yard pass from Skippy Lewis. Within two minutes, the Warriors had smashed across two touchdowns, both carried by Nlalinowslci. Following the second touchdown, Sullivan converted to bring the score to T3-0. Coyle scored First by virtue oF Malinowskiis end run which was Followed by Sullivanis game winning conversion. Late in the second period, Ciamache threw a 40 yard pass to Don Davies which accounted For their only touchdown, The second halF, held to a stalemate, gave Coyle a slight edge in the statistic rating. Qutstanding in the game was the 0'0onnell, Beaulieu, McCann combination which interlocl4ed to Form a Firm Front wall against the Red and White attaclcs. Coyle's last bid For a touch- down was again bloclced by the clock ending the game. Coyle 31-Vincentian lnstitute 'I Following the Durfee defeat, the Warriors bounced baclc with a 31-7 victory over Vincentian lnstitute of Albany. Malinowslci set the ball in scoring position by romping 53 yards to be stopped only by being pushed out of bounds on the Q yard line, Two plays later he carried the ball over for the first score of the game. The Blue and White of Vincentian toolc the lead briefly following a Duncan pass and an Gif-lara conversion only to lose it by Bourdon crashing over for a Coyle score. The third score, was acclaimed by a Malinowslci run from mid-field. Later in the game, Sullivan sent a pass sailing 31 yards to McCann in the end zone for Coylefs fourth score. The final score came in the fourth quarter as Andy Rapoza galloped from the Vincentian Q0 yard line to cross the goal line. Coyle 20-Cardinal Hayes 7 Raising the curtain on a new inter-state rivalry, Coyle smashed the hard-fighting Cardinal Hayes team, of New Yorlc City, to the tune of Q0-7, The highlight of the game came as Malinowslci ran the opening lciclcoff 95 yards toa touchdown. Cas Nlalinowslfi claimed a second touchdown following a 'I7 yard end run. The third score of the game is to the credit of the accurate passing of Sullivan to McCann, who carried it across the line. The Red and Gold was saved from a shut-out by Lamonicafs 42 yard run late in the final period. This new series promises to be one of the high-lights of next year's season as the Cardinal l-layes' boys promise to even things up on their home ground in '48 Coyle 6 The underdog Blue and White eleven of Walpole held the Warriors to a 6-6 tie in the lhanlcsgiving Day annual morning game. Johnny lurco scored the Walpole points following a T5 yard end run. The passing arm of Sullivan came to the rescue of the Coyle team as the ball Managers R. McAloon and D. Scully Walpole 6 smoothly sailed into Captain Bourdonls hands as he waited in the end zone. This marked the sixth time since the school opened in T934 that the Coyle team has been asked to attend. The lvffarriors ran into St. Josephs Cathedral team of Nlanchester, New hlampshire lor their lirst game. The accurate shots ol Ben Roy ol St. Josephus, which totaled 31 points, caused the Warriors to go down to a 40-Q9 defeat. St. Josephs won the tournament by defeating both the St. Johns ol Worcester and St. Paphaells ol Pawtucket in the hnal rounds Captain Tom Mcfann, playing his third season ol varsity basket- ball, proved to be a capable leader and led the scoring in almost every game. fV'lcCann ended the season high in the county scoring race and gained a place on various All Bristol Teams, Qther veterans ol the JQ46-47 campaigns were guards Billy Sullivan QBRJ, Skippy Lewis, center, Vin Smith and lorward, paul B. S. C. The purpose of such a program is to establish within the individual qualities ol health and social efficiency. lhe program is divided into two main classifications.
