dllflllg Me be gfzfs. .. THE 'BONNER BATSMEN for '62 include fkneelingl Lou Mongielli, Jack Dick, Rich In Baseball, as in any other sport, the human factors such as speed, agility, and power are required of a fine athlete. At Bonner, a combi- nation of rookies and veterans embodies this year's Friars. Under the able guidance of coach Tom Sabol and moderator Fr. Duff, the future for our batsmen looks bright. A hall club is only as good as its pitching staff, and the Friars are counting on the able underclassmen to furnish the added thrust. With stars like .lack Hamilton, John Connor, and Joe Cunningham, Bonner is sure to burn up the proverbial diamond in an all-out effort to gain the Championship. Carupi, Ray DePaula, .lim Proud. fStandingJ Mr. Sabol fm:-lchl, .lack Hamilton, John Con- ner, Bob Vent, Fred Bayer, John Ranelli, Pat McCrea, Joe Cunningham, Bill Coyle, Ed. Rog- ers fmanagerl. RE-ENTRY-Fleet-footed Jim Proud, in an attempt to steal, home, is thwarted by Pat Mc- Crea. Roy DePaula, a steady batsman, steps back to avoid the on-coming Proud. Scenes such as this one are typical of the always-alert Friars who relentlessly capitalize on their opponents' errors. LAYING THE GROUND WORK-Mr. Sabol instructs John Connor and .lack Hamilton, two of Bonneris star performers, in some funda- mentals. In order to create a championship team, he must iron out the smallest error he- setting the Bonner nine. For his fine job as manager and coach much credit is due him.

Soccer The soccer team, although not the most heralded V sport in Bonner, took on an added luster this year as it embarked on a campaign of six consecutive victories during the second half of the season. A determining factor in this successful effort was the addition of soccer to the intramural sports program. To the surprise and delight of the school, this per- severing team soared to unprecedented heights. Nick Flano, Captain, deserves special Commendation as the most valuable player. To the Coach, Mr. Lou Piaeelli, goes most of the credit for the soccer team's emergence as a winning combination in the period of a few short years. NICK FLANO, an exchange student from Chile and a member of the All-Catholic soccer team, gets off a sharp pass to a teammate in a game against Bishop Neumann. The hooters failed to taste victory in this game, how- ever, suffering a loss by a single point. BONNER'S BEST BOOTERS-The best soccer team in Bonner's history of competition pauses briefly before a game. fFirst row, left to fighlli- W. Metzler, T. McCollum, N. Flano fcaptainl, J. Guinan, T. The brilliant record of the 1961 oars- men sets a high standard which this yearis team would be proud to equal. The Bonner Crew returned champs from the Stoteshury Regatta of 1961 and placed second in the Schoolboy Nation- als in Washington, D.C. This year s crew- men have benefited by the experience, training, and the navigation planning of Mr. George Mattson. They stand ready to maintain their position of leadership in Catholic League Crew. THE BASIC TRAJECTORY for this yearis crew team is destined to boost it to city-wide fame. The banner year of 1961 sparked the enthusiasm of all, and when the call for candi- dates came., the turnout was overwhelming. Here Mr. Mattson fstandingl with a careful eye, selects the boys most able to help the tearn again attain victory. GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT-The cur- rent varsity eight, hoping to surpass their prede- cessors' feats, cheerfully carry their shell down to the river to begin practice. Included in this stellar group are ileft to right! Captain T. Halfpenrly, P. Jonik, J. McHugh, C. Reimel, G. Meger, G. Livengood, T. Franey, W. Mc- Casker, and coxswain F. Guaraldo.
