74lfE!ll AM 0 For the seventh season, the Friar Track Team has proven itself capable of flashing its name in the lime-light of the Sports World. A new batch of footmen has ap- peared on the scene to carry our banner to greater track triumphs. Through constant rehearsal, the team reached its peak form by the time of its opening meet. As is true of all commendable shows, much credit for their success belongs to the unacclaimed leadership of their coach, Dixie Dunbar, and their moderator, Fr. Dunleavy. Cap- tain John Mullin, who climbed the rough road of success, now heads his group by sprinting both the 100 and 220 yard races in enviable times. COME ALONG WITH ME shouts John Mullin to Rich Shermin as they jog around the familiar arch. Both boys express signs of triumph as their smiling faces light up the way. John Mullin, Bonner's best sprinter, and Rich Sherwin, our finest hurdler, have been a credit to Coach Dixie Dunbar. BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON and into the landing pit jumps Paul Fraatz. Besides doing the broad jump, Paul also runs the mile in per- fect form.

PM SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD--and over the top goes Jim McVeigh, Bonneris potent high-jumper. Jim's high-flying feats promise to strengthen Bonneris position in the field events where many a crucial meet is won or lost. On February 10th, amid the carnival atmosphere en- guliing Convention Hall, the Friar mile-relay team pre- pared to defend its title. This year's light-footed squad was composed of J. Mullin, R. Sherwin, J. Vandergast and J. Nelson. From the opening gun they put forth their utmost, and by the third leg of the race, it had narrowed down to a two-team duel-Bonner and Roman. Anchorman Mullin utilized every ounce of strength he had but was nipped at the wire by ROH13D,S Bohhy Cuh- bins. Although thwarted in their efforts to retain the title the team has hopes of turning the tables on the Roman trackmen next year. BEST FOOT FORWARD is the motto of Rich Sherwin as he breaks from the starting line in the first quarter mile of the re- lay. Rich completed his leg in 56 seconds. STEAM HEAT is applied by Frank Bernard to get the edge on his Cardinal Dougherty op- ponent. Such determination is sure to make Frank one of the top men on next yearis squad. STEP BY STEP puts Joe Vandergast in the lead. His speed helped pace the Bonner relay team to a berth in the finals.

Behind the scenes, coach Fr. McGettigan hopes that the champion- ship cup is within the reach of his talented performers. However, if these star performers falter, Father can pad the script with a highly-proficient supporting cast of underclass- n1en.
