MONROVIA OFFICE The manpower shortage around this institution this year was so acute that there were only tive fellas on the stattg the other part being strictly Amazons, And have you wondered about those six or seven haggard and worn- looking juniors who stumble from class to class muttering under their breath? Well, those are the ones who are awaiting the final word as to which one is going to be the chief next year. lt was a good race, and we are pleased to announce that HELEN Mc- MULLEN and IUNE RHEINCANS are next year's annual editors. l Row l: Harpole, Reardon, Reed, DeNault. These may be earned by holding a student-body office, being an officer of any club, being active in sports, being in the scholarship club and other such ad- mired occupations. I49J Scholarship Society It you've wondered where the brains of l'Vl.A.D. are hiding out, just look up Sue Arave, the prexy ot Scholarship Society. This is one ot the outstanding organizations of lVl.A.D. and it is an honor to be a member. Speech Honor The honorable orators that you see in the picture are the cream ot the crop at M.A.D. They can well boast of their selected membership. The speeches given this year for the American Legion and Lions' Club were judged as the best in many years. Projection Crew ln the auditorium of MAD. the students sit without a mur- mur, fascinated by the tender love scene being portrayed or the screen. just as the herc takes the heroine into his arms, there comes a crash, bang, boom, and all is dark. An under- tone ot disgusted murmurs may be heard among the students. But all is not lost: our trusty projection crew is quick to the rescue, Within a few minutes all is well. Our projection crevx have really done a swell jok this year. Art Club For those who have mastered the tempera- ments of the brush and pencil, there is the Art Club. These students, un- der the direction of Miss Chess and Miss Clem- mons, have done much to develop their arts as well as to enjoy them. We see the results of many ot their talents displayed in the posters that are clev- erly created to advertise our school activities. Math Club These intellectual indi- viduals larned fancy math problems and had gay parties, too, during their very successful year under the sponsorship of lvlr, Pilmer. The High School Chris- tian Association is one of our more serious clubs. It meets every month and holds short periods for prayer, and singing. They fly that Christian banner high and you can tell by the looks on their faces that they receive real sat- istaction. The girls, seen wander- ing through the halls of lVl.A.D. with that gleam in their eyes, are none other than our young Florence Nightingales ot the junior Red Cross. They are probably seeking a victim to whom they may apply first aid, However, besides stalking their prey, the girls have been very busy taking part in many of the National Red Cross' activities. , , ,,,,,0, sweaty T iiis T a s Cal-Cadets lup, two, three, four-Hup, two, three, r, No doubt this sound has come to your 5 more than once during the past two years. ou would follow this sound, you would find rim group of boys, right-facing, counter- 'ching, presenting arms, etc. These are the liers, sailors, and marines of tomorrow. lCERS-Murray, Gregg, Brown, Doncy. '. ff . x The last piece of copy has been writteng the last picture has been takeng the last proof has been corrected. The l945 edition of the Monrovian is in your hands. We have done our best to please you. However, this book would not be complete without bestowing credit and praise where they are due. Our sincere thanks go to Mr. Griffin. Words cannot express our gratitude to him for all the work he has done for us. He was the man who did most of the hard work and received the least credit. He was very ill this year and was away from school for two months, but during that time he was constantly in touch with us and we fear that he worried too much over the book. Orchids go to Mrs. Hadley of McDougall Studios who came down so many days to take pictures and still came back to take more when our schedule was spoiled by rain or fog. Thank you too for your amazing patience while taking the group pictures. lt is with pleasure that we announce that HELEN MCMULLEN and IUNE RHEINCANS are the Associate Editors of the annual next year. They have really worked hard this year and do deserve the honor. We'd like to thank them both for all the help they've given us and we want to wish them all the success possible in their publications next year. Our thanks go to the people who gave so generously of their time to write copy and carry out other assignments given to them: jo Ann Cusic and Ruth Hodges: Mars Reardon and Barbara Whit- ingg Ree Harpole and Bill Stevensg and many others. To the Los Angeles Engravers and Phillips Printing Co. also goes our appreciation for their helpful and valuable advice. However, our book would not be complete if we did not thank each and everyone of you for all the cooperationyou have given us. So to the faculty and the whole student body .' many thanks.
