SE IOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1945, sixteen, un-educated, scared, little pupils entered Monrovia School. f0nly 'five out of the first grade have survived to be seniors at M.H.S. in 57.3 Accompanied by our parents, we weren't so scared, but the minute they left us alonein that jumbled-up room, we were very shy and unable to join the rest. Finally, we adjusted ourselves to this new experience and began to make friends. Mrs. Allen, our first and second grade teacher, was very patient and understanding. She was faced with many problems, but managed to overcome them. In the third grade, some of us joined the band and that was our first experience with music which we enjoyed very much. With the help of Mr. Ormandy many medals have been won by the musically inclined students. Mrs. Curtis, whom we well remember from getting whippings when we got our feet wet, taught us in the third grade. We had many ftmny and educational experiences with our fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Jett, who was liked by everyone. Our class was separated when we entered the fifth grade.. Some ofthe students remained with Mrs. Jett while the rest went to Mr. Finchum's room. All of us were together again in the sixth grade as we were taught by Mr. Finchum. We first organized class officers that year, and re-elected them every six weeks, so that everyone had a chance to be an officer. Our class parties were planned by these officers. We presented a Christmas play to the P.T.A. that year which we worked very hard to learn. We were anxious to go to the seventh grade where the students from Hall School joined us. We were honored to play Junior High basketball and began to feel a little conceited that year, since we were upstairs. We elected Mr. Ormandy as our sponsor and we were allowed to have a party each semester. ,In the eighth grade, Mr. Shuler was our sponsor, and was also chosen for our sponsor in the Fresh- man grade. That year we elected a Halloween Carnival queen which was Willene Poynter. The other three years our queens were Roberta Rushton, Carolyn Chambers, and Carolyn Brownen. Our class contributed a trophy to the school by winning the Freshman tourney at Clayton that year. We dreaded the initiation by the seniors but after it was over, we were glad that all of us had participamd. Mr. Beck was elected by the class as our Sophomore sponsor and we had two parties. Our Junior year was a very busy one. We are proud of the record-breading achievement we won by our magazine sales. We had many enjoyable times that year, presenting a class play, selling candy at school, selling cokes and candy at the ball games, and especially attending the Junior and Senor Prom. We are now in our final year of High School and we regret leaving dmis wonder- ful school, and hope that the students in the future years have as many enjoyable events as we have had in the past twelve years here. We part with these words: fVenimus, Vicimus, Vedimusj. fWe came, we saw, we conqueredj CLASS WILL I, Barbara Clements, will my books to anyone who will use them to better advantage than Idid. I, Carolyn Brownen, will nothing, but will sell Butch. I, Rosalie Green, will my band uniform to any one big enough to wear it. I, Janice Archer, will my seat in J xmior Band to Patty Fansler, Sherry Norman, and Farrell Gallaway. I, Don Byers, will my 39 La Salle to the Driver's Training Class. l, Carrie Cole, will my ability to be tardy to school three days out of five to Mary Ruth Brewer.
