Finally, we adjusted ourselves to this new experience and began to make friends. Mrs. Allen, our first and second grade teacher, was very patient and understanding. She was faced with many problems, but managed to overcome them. In the third grade, some of us joined the band and that was our first experience with music which we enjoyed very much. With the help of Mr. Ormandy many medals have been won by the musically inclined students. Mrs. Curtis, whom we well remember from getting whippings when we got our feet wet, taught us in the third grade. We had many ftmny and educational experiences with our fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Jett, who was liked by everyone. Our class was separated when we entered the fifth grade.. Some ofthe students remained with Mrs. Jett while the rest went to Mr. Finchum's room. All of us were together again in the sixth grade as we were taught by Mr. Finchum. We first organized class officers that year, and re-elected them every six weeks, so that everyone had a chance to be an officer. Our class parties were planned by these officers. We presented a Christmas play to the P.T.A. that year which we worked very hard to learn. We were anxious to go to the seventh grade where the students from Hall School joined us. We were honored to play Junior High basketball and began to feel a little conceited that year, since we were upstairs. We elected Mr. Ormandy as our sponsor and we were allowed to have a party each semester. ,In the eighth grade, Mr. Shuler was our sponsor, and was also chosen for our sponsor in the Fresh- man grade. That year we elected a Halloween Carnival queen which was Willene Poynter. The other three years our queens were Roberta Rushton, Carolyn Chambers, and Carolyn Brownen. Our class contributed a trophy to the school by winning the Freshman tourney at Clayton that year. We dreaded the initiation by the seniors but after it was over, we were glad that all of us had participamd. Mr. Beck was elected by the class as our Sophomore sponsor and we had two parties. Our Junior year was a very busy one. We are proud of the record-breading achievement we won by our magazine sales. We had many enjoyable times that year, presenting a class play, selling candy at school, selling cokes and candy at the ball games, and especially attending the Junior and Senor Prom. We are now in our final year of High School and we regret leaving dmis wonder- ful school, and hope that the students in the future years have as many enjoyable events as we have had in the past twelve years here. We part with these words: fVenimus, Vicimus, Vedimusj. fWe came, we saw, we conqueredj CLASS WILL I, Barbara Clements, will my books to anyone who will use them to better advantage than Idid. CLASS PRCDPHECY This article was taken from the Monrovia Daily Bulldog and we hope you will enjoy the fantastic tale as much as we did. Our story begins on a nice sunshiny day in July. It was around neon when this educated bum was strolling along the river bank. Since the poor guy, whose name by the way was Don Byers, hadn't had a thing to eat for a few days, except what he could scrape up out of the garbage cans, he decided he wanted some fish, He got a small limb off a nearby tree, tied the string on the end, Zthat was holding his coat togethery took the safety pin out of his well-worn breeches and twirled a worm on the end. Then plunk the line went in the water. Right away there was a tug at the line, but to his surprise and disappointment it wasn't a fish it was an odd shaped vase. While rubbing the mud off the vase, the cork popped out, black smoke was everywhere, and a genie appeared before Don. The genie granredD0n a Wish for letting him out of the jar. Since Donwas a rather lonely, and sentimental bum, he asked to see his class- mates of dear old M,H.S, of '57, Onewave of the genie's hand and zingo Don was at an auction. He thought it was an odd auction because sitting on the platform was one of his closest buddies of M.H.S., Butch Hornaday. It seems Gina Lollabrigida had bought the red-headed young man for S20.00. However since she already had a husband she sold him to the next highest bidder among the ladies. This turned out to be none other than Carolyn Brownen who was interested in buying a dishwasher for her home. As fate would have it David Allman was the money-mad auctioneer. After talking to David for a few minutes the genie summoned Don to a taxi. Upon entering the taxi Don heard a familiar voice singing Live Fast, Love Hard, and Die Yo1mg. When Don asked the driver to turn up the radio, he irnrnediately turned around and told him that the more money you spend the louder I get. Don was so surprised when he saw that the taxi driver was Conrad Fravel After Conrad chatted with him for a while Don made tlne remark that he didn't have any money. With that statement Conrad pulled over to the curb and out went Don. He saw that he was standing in front of a big theater with neon signs glaring down at him. The sign read Featuring The Sebastiansf' Somehow Don managed to sneak in. When the show began he recognized Mrs. Sebastian who was singing, as Carolyn Chambers. As soon as her number was finished, a group of 10 boys, all of whom looked alike, came racing onto the stage to give a basketball exhibition. It seems they had played a game against Nels Oneal's team the preceeding night and won by a wide margin of 50 points. Bytheway their coach who was also their father was Mr. Sid Sebastian. An usher discovered Don and was getting ready to throw him out when Don let out a howl. 'I'he usher turned and asked what's up Doc? Without looking up Don said his pin had come un- fastened and he'd lose his dignity if he moved another inch. The usher, Bob Campbell gave him another pirn and then he recognized Don. Seeing as how Don was an old schoolmate, he escorted him out instead of throwing him out bodily. lt was raining out side by now and poor Don was getting soaked. A car pulled up to the curb and told him to hop in. The driver was Clydie Ridenour, the winner of the 500 mile Speedway. Clydie and his wife, Nancy, were going to the airport. Arriving at the airport, Mr. and Mrs. Ridenour took Don to meet tlne pilot of their new planefa jetj, Carlton Worland was the jet pilot and Shirlee Lawhorn was the hostess. fOn a jet ?J After the Ridenour's had taken off Don decided to look around for a while. He saw and talked to several classmates. The first two were Mrs. Barnes and Barbara Clements. Mrs. Barnes now had two children, but Miss Clements was still at Purdue studying to be a farmer's wife. Miss Clements told him Diane Schelm was a student at U.C.L.A. working for a major in psychiatry. Mrs. Melvinia Ratts was there, also, getting ready to fly to New Jersey. Looking aronmd, Don spied Karen Phillips as tlne personnel manager. Karen told him she had hired Susan Bright to wash windows but tlne girl was just so lazy she'd had to fire her. Miss Phillips found out later Susan had become a great concert pianist. Some more classmates at the airport were Rosalie Green who was selling tickets, Lynn Estridge, the Kentucky boy, who was working on jets, and Carrie Cole, the emergency nurse at the airport. Annie Meyers and Sue Brewer were sec- retaries to the big wheels. A Navy boy with big dimples kept coming through every once-in-a-while, hollering for Cindy. Don couldn't have mistaken those dimples anywhere - it was Bob Tully all right. Don finally decided to leave the airport and was walking out a side door when he saw Mr. and Mrs. Miller and their four clnildren. Mrs. Miller was also a classmate of Don's. He stopped and asked her about Patty Shields. Mrs. Miller said that she and her husband and children were living in Califomia. Don got in touch with the genie again for a trip to California. Two of his classmates, Judy Martin and Barbara Allen, were in the interior decorating business together. ln fact they had just finished decorating Sharon Busbee's new home. Sharon had become a very successful business woman. Miss Busbee told him that Janice Archer had joined a group of evangelistic workers and was now touring California. Don was hitch hiking back home when Kenny Vaughn picked him up. Kenny was tal.king about all the mischief he used to get into and what fun they had in school. He told him Drusilla Gentry was now giving lessons on the comptonneter at old M.H.S. Kermy told Don to keep looking to tlne right because Billy David Shields had an experimental station nearby. Billy had just returned from his trip to the moon in a rocket ship he designed. Kenny was so interested in showing this to Don that he ran off the road and the car was going so fast it turned over five times before hitting a tree. This accident caused Don to meet tlne last of his classmates. You see, Pete Hadley was tlne ambulance driver that rushed Don to tlne hospital. Don Steward was tlne friendly undertaker who called on Don at the hospital. Hewent away very sad and muttering to himself. It seems Don wasn't hurt seriously and he would be able to go home in a few days, but he wouldn't ride home witln Kenny: he walked instead. TDQOM , . Q 5, f -Q, ,. K nz, 1. We were frightened for it was a new experience for all of us. Before long, though, we began making friends and soon we overcame our bashfulness. Mrs. Allen was very patient and considerate with us during our second year of schooling. In our third grade, Mrs. Curtis welcomed us with a smile when we entered her room. Our education in the fourth grade was under the leadership of Mrs. Jett, whom we got along with very well. Some of us remained in her room during our fifth grade while the others went to Mr. Finchum's room. We were all together again when we entered the sixth grade with Mr. Finchum as our teacher. Excitedly we were looking forward to going up stairs into the seventh grade and meeting our new friends from Hall School. We began participating in sports and we enjoyed our semester parties. We elected Mr. Ormandy to be our sponsor and also chose class officers. The eighth grade was much the sameas the seventh, and we re-elected Mr. Ormandy as our sponsor. Finally, the year arrived when we were freshmen and had our initiation and many other activities which we enjoyed. Mr. Ormandy was our sponsor once again. In our sophomore year, Mr. Parker was our sponsor. We sold Christmas cards to rnakeour class treasury start building a fund for our Senior Trip. Our ,Tunior year is the busiest yet. With our magazine sales and candy sales we are doing very well. We are looking forward to the Prom and our senior year. The first victim of Nels 0'Neal's boys was Stilesville, 60 to 56, in the Bulldog gym. Monrovia, after leading by six points at the half, had to fight off a stubborn Stilesville rally in the final half that saw the Bulldog lead shrink to three points by the end of the third quarter, 42 to 39. Monrovia featured a balanced scoring attack again last night, with the major difference being, that, instead of four boys having about 10 points each, they hit from 10 to 17 each. Larry Shields led the Bulldog at- tack with 17 points, and was fol- lowed by Eddie Phillips with 14, Don Ambrose with 12, and Bill Shields with 10. The Bulldogs will play at home again tonight with the Stinesville Quarry Lads coming to Monrovia to oppose the locals in a Homecom- ing game. All past lettermen will be admitted free tonight if they -wear their letter sweaters. The t-first game starts at 6:30. The Bulldogs led all the way, 18- 15, 30-29, and 43-34, besides the fi- nal margin of the game. Coach 0fNeal told The Reporter this morning that he was especial- ly pleased with the defense thrown by his 'charges in the second half tht held Helmsburg scoreless until only 2:15 remained in the third period. By that time the Bulldogs had built their lead to 14 points and could not be stopped. The Bulldogs, who have the best balanced scoring attack of any school in Morgan County, con- tinued to display balance in last night's contest with Sebastian hit- ting 15, Bill Shields and Phillips each 11, Larry Shields 10, and Am- brose :ind Moore 8 each.
