Viking Dedicates Final Effort To Mr. Martin Years ago, a young man, newly graduated from Ball State University, came to Monroeville as a science teacher. Within a few years the former all-state guard in football become principal and has held that position for the past 32 years. During those years, he demonstrated administration skill and personal enthusiasm that has been such a large factor in the close¬ ness and understanding between everyone, faculty and students alike. It would be unfair, however, to speak of him only as a principal. For many years he was the freshman biology teacher and for several years, head coach of the basketball team. These responsibilities were be¬ yond the duties as principal, but he was always willing to do everything in his power for the betterment of the school. For the past several years, he has planned a unique style of graduation exercise in which the Seniors them¬ selves present the program. This involved a lot of work, but thanks to his guidance and encouragement, each commencement was a success. As we leave M. H. S. , we remember our principal for many different qualities. His proper judgment, authority, intelligence, enthusiasm, and perhaps most importantly, his sincere interest in the welfare of each stu¬ dent and alumnus of Monroeville High School, has benefited all of us. Thus, it is only fitting that we respectfully dedicate this final edition of the Viking to Mr. George G. Martin. 4
