The Class rings, caps and gowns ordered, announcements chosen. Frustration as a locker opened, spilling its contents into the hallway. A lost gym shoe, a new exercise, a stiff muscle. . . Studious silence bro¬ ken by a paper plane thrown across study hall. Whispered messages, a Coke at the candy store, The Sound of Music at the big city. Logarithms, quadratic equations, an English test completed and passed. The candy store stocked and mop¬ ped, cider to sell. . . Play practice and dives through a window. A lad¬ der, a spotlight captured the en¬ thusiasm of the players. A coat check, helping a teacher, emphasis on scholastic achievement, and bro¬ ken pinatas and shouts of Ole. The county tournament came. Expectant enthusiasm, tearful losses . . . The cry of victory, shakers thrown into the air. Dusty seats and a baseball game. A volleyball tour¬ ney and a trophy. Solemn and thoughtful are the Se¬ niors. A quiet prayer, a majestic speech, and a handshake. . . The end of the testing, screaming frustra¬ tion, and ecstacy. . Remembered al¬ ways as the spirit of Kinship.
